Doc Bach, Homeless Bill, Roland, Victor Morrison, Tennex, PEEFSmash (most of the time), Mustrum Ridcully, and Deathlike are the ones I can think of off the top of my head (I may have missed some).

A circle jerk of terrible ideas.

[tinfoil hat]I'm beginning to suspect every one of us was sent by PGI to clog up the forums with ****** ideas. PGI does something wrong, we propose a host of systems equally as stupid, and the rest of General Discussion Game Balance watches helplessly as we up-vote each other. It's ******* rigged, I tell you. I can't prove anything yet, but I'm working on it. :D[/tinfoil hat]

If they let a handful of the people mentioned in this thread help with some of the major decisions I think this game would have a chance.

I look at staff like Paul who has to create a poll to learn about the game and I realize they're in a bad place.

the problem is, which handful?

most combinations would just end up with people screaming at each other and nothing happening. i know i have seen some sort of rage based argument break out between most of the people mentioned.

FupDup's list is a great place to start, and add FupDup to the list. If a majority of them agree on something chances are it's the right way to go.

I look at players that think they have a clue while their posts remain argumentative, nonconstructive, rude and uninformed and am unsurprised when PGI crawls into their cave after they issue a poll on player opinion and instead of getting positive feedback that they are actually democratically polling the community for feedback - they get this.

Some of the players on the "list" don't even understand core game mechanics.

Funny thread though.

Yeah aside from Bill, that list is more akin to "regular posters who agree with eachother the most in gameplay balance" than people who particularly make good ideas.

I'm simply telling it how it is. The way I see it, it's Paul's job to know these things better than we do or could (since he presumably knows more about the upcoming heat changes, internal metrics, etc.). You don't make major game design decisions based on the will of the masses. That's why you have game designers on staff. So yes, to me it reeks of incompetence and I'm not afraid to say it.

Yes, you've pointed out another common trait within that list. People who hold a personal grudge against the dev team. Modesty is lost upon some of them.

Mechwarrior 4 Weapons hardpoints solution would help a lot with this problem... Each variants and mechs woud be more unique. PGI should check this.

That's not how he put it though, he said i've got a choice.... "do this now BUT it's going to lead to a lot of whining about lights, where do you guys want to go with it?"

Shock of all shock horrors, he actually communicated and asked for feedback!! Now everyone's crying he should just make the call and we be stuck with it. Next patch when/if everyone starts crying lights are too strong in brawls they get yet another true call of how much faith/knowledge we have in our own ability to manage this games balance.

This feels like an ego stroke troll thread... what is this thread meant to accomplish but bait the trolls, and white knights of these forums?

The fact remains that he should still be the person most capable of making the best informed decision on the matter. If lights will be too strong he should already know about it. It doesn't take 2000 matches to figure out something like that.

I have an opinion on what should happen, but I have a lot less information at my fingertips. I only have in-game experience to go off of and incomplete details of future game changes. He has all the details of the new heat system, server side damage metrics, presumably some experience in designing competitive games, etc. So even though I think my opinion is the correct one, I don't think he should rely on my opinion.

Once again, it's giving us an informed choice based off whats going on, as the issue with lights relates to a hit detection bug that they don't have a time frame on fixing simply making the choice will lead to griping either way.

All for naught. His ideas are just as bad only he doesn't get a spot in the circle.
