Hey ppl
so the most of us reading the books, know that normal mech have a 360° degrees to 160° compressed looking cutted in 4 sections for left, right, infront, and behind your mech. what do you think? would that be an option to make the game more realistic to the books or is it too heavy to handle? it would be cool if we have that option to activate optional on our mech to add it to the HUD display. it's still a very important thing i think!
What do you think?

360° to 160° possible?

It is certainly possible. After all you could do it in Quake 3 just by changing your POV setting to 360,it is rather confusing though. But I think it would be a good way to tell if someone was shooting at you and you could tell which direction it's coming from. It would be like a damage indicator so you could tell where you were being attacked from with out having the bright red glowing circle like they do in FPS and would take some skill to read it as well.

I think this would be too complicated for the average gamer, and a difficult feat to pull off engine/programming wise

Unfortunately, it would also be an extreme advantage for those who can afford to run a 4 monitor setup that gives a 360 degree of vision. Having eyes at the back of your head is an incredible advantage, it basically stops anyone from being able to sneak up on you. Besides, it would take away programming time for actual content, so I have to vote no for this idea.

360 turn as was said in other post, would make it silly bc you could run away while firing and not exposing rear armor. Too OP.

The idea behind this thread isn't to make it so a person can see 360 on 4 monitors. It is to include in the HUD a bar across the top or bottom that includes a 360 degree view around the mech, compressed into a 160 degree field, which has been mentioned in much of the fluff. There for all the data you would recieve from looking around is smashed down. If you want a concept of what that looks like, try going into Quake 3 and using the POV command and set it to 360. You will probably find it very confusing. The other problem is that it cuts down on how far away you can see. You see more of your immediate surroundings but it's all crammed very close together.
What this will do really is instead of allowing you to actually see and percieve 360 degrees around is it will allow you to see bright spots such as laser fire from around. So you could tell when someone is say shooting you in the butt by the sudden green flair you see in the edges of the bar. It's similar to games such as Halo or other FPS where you have a red circle and part of it lights up depending on which direction you are being shot from. It doesn't really tell you who or what is shooting you, it just tells you that something is shooting you. This is also not necesarrily a instant win touch either since it may not help you locate those missles dropping on your head, since the view is only on the horizontal plane and not the vertical one. This hud option would be more helpful against lasers or really close enemies then anything else. Ballistics would move to fast for you to see.

You are mistaken. They are talking about a camera that shows 360 degrees. What you are thinking of is 360 degree torso twist. Something that the Jenner is actually capable of, it has already been shown in the videos. The amount a mech can torso twist changes from mech to mech.

I was just about to say that.
