It has often been an issue. Mechs with 3 Balistic slots in a single location that defies all logic. Dragons, Hunchbacks, Centurions, Victors and the yet unreleased Shadow Hawk. The problem is that actually using all 3 slots creates a highly impractical build.

Well I come to suggest that these mechs are stealth Primaries. That that are simply waiting for a feature to be included at a latter date that will make them not just relevant but highly preferable. They are just sitting idle and waiting for the release of the product that they where made for.

The LAC/2 and LAC/5

Created originally by the NAIS during the Clan Invasion, they where kept under lock and key and prevented from widespread use. That's right. They count as rare loot. They are purples.

The Light Autocannon/2 weighs in at 4 tons, has a reduced optimum range of 540 and fills a single slot.

You can pack in 3 LAC/2's and 3 tons of ammo for the weight of a single AC/20 and 1 ton of ammo.

Those slots are for MGs and are based on the TRO listing and nothing else. Unfortunately this makes for some crappy hardpoint configs at times.

Keep in mind also that in Lore, mechs often had to engage light vehicles and infantry which is why MGs were actually kind of really useful to have. Until/Unless PGI adds light vehicles and infantry as NPCs, they are alway going to be substandard.

4 ballistic slots says machine gun. 3 ballistic slots says PGI is taking the long view on those mechs.

Also our extraneous type slots have very little to do with the TRO.

There are no canon Shadowhawks with MGs. Nor any Hunchbacks or Centurions, as far as I know. Or Dragons. When was the last time you cracked open a TT rulebook or TRO?

Those mechs were never meant to carry more than 1 gun in that location... that PGI made them so is not the problem of the mechs themselves.

I run 3 A/C2s in the Hunchback 4G and plan on doing so in the Shadow Hawk. It is a good loadout for mechs with the ballistics all in one spot because you do not have to worry about convergence. It behaves like a UAC5 but with better dmg, range, and no jamming. Slightly more heat, but mostly the tonnage requirements is a bit high.

Three ballistics in one locaiton can be used for that type of application. If you wanted, you could even run 3 MGs. I am glad PGI gave me that option.

You aren't forced to run 3 ballistics, you could also run 2 or 1, so I guess I don't see what the problem is *shrug*.

I stand corrected about the SHD.

However, I don't think that most people can argue that the hardpoint configurations are at least loosely based on the TROs.
