It does target the first thing you hit if you've targeted nothing else... But I support this idea regardless.
Its so damned annoying to have a lovely LRM launcher, but nobody can be bothered to target anything.

I did notice how it auto targets if you have never had a target yet in the match - this is good for all.
How about a checkbox (that is checked by default) that enables this behavior ANY time you do not currently have a target. This would be good for noobs. For myself and many others, I would hate to lose the guy I am "tracking" with this auto behavior so I would turn it off... But yea... noobs would benefit - as would LRM 'mechs that have a noob on their team.

the problem with the previous changes to targeting is that a larger portion of the population just doesn't know how to target or switch targets. i see a lot more of people fighting mechs in front of them while having someone across the map targeted. because of this they spend their efforts trying to target weak points that actually aren't there since the paper doll isn't actually the one for the mech they are fighting.

Gotta point out... I frequently have a distant mech targeted while brawling so I can herf LRM's At h while I knife fight someone else.
i have done that before too, but i am talking about pure brawler builds and it is very obvious they are aiming for the red spot on the paper doll.
