As a result, I only just read that one day in real time = one day in the game universe. It then occurred to me, this would allow the devs to use this mechanic to have in-game events where the community could fight the historical battles of the Clan Invasion.
I can't seem to find where the in-game calendar will start, but it is fairly logical to tie the in-game calendar to the real world calendar - so the in-game day that Operation: Inception early access goes live would be July 17, 3049. All the theory below relies on this assumption.
According to Sarna, the clans hit the Periphery a month later, and start attacking the edgeworlds of the Houses in March 3050. This will mean that the Clans won't appear in-game until March 2013, which is plenty of lead time for the devs to work out how the Clans will fight, work, and whether players will ever be able to pilot a Timber Wolf.
However, as mentioned above, it does give the option of having some of the historical battles of the Invasion as in-game events. Its a bit difficult, since most of the battles between the IS and Clans were defeats for the IS forces - in many cases the IS forces were utterly annihilated, which isn't much fun for the players in those battles.
Just a few substantial battles I can find:
Battle of The Rock - August 3049/2012
