Are they stupid? Really? So not only do they not mention this in the patch notes (I don't know if they thought we wouldn't know), they instead of just outright increasing the heat add a hidden penalty that you can only see if you go to an unofficial website.
Also the Gauss is not the only weapon with the penalty, take look at the AC2.
PGI once again flipping off it's player-base.

Gauss Heat WUT????. it uses a ( Asynchronous linear induction motor ) ie super cooled pulse magnetic accelerators. they should create no heat at all certainly not enough to take it above 1c or 33f. PGI don't mess with physics. Professor Brian cox will hear about this!

Haven't noticed it yet on my Ilya, do you have a source for this?

Just tested the AC/2s...firing only two with fast fire for about 7 bursts and the heat jumps from about 16-17% to 37%. However the heat seems to stop building above 37% for 2 fired at once.

With 3: it does a strange jump from about 26-7% to 38%, and then builds about 1% after that per round fired.

With 4: Jumps from 29% to 40% then builds quickly afterwards (without jumps though)

These values were from alternating fire on all guns. The heat built up normally when firing all 4 at once.

In any event, something strange is happening with the 2-3 ac/2's around the 20-25% mark, even though they should not have such a penalty.
[Tested with a CTF-4X: 16 Double HS (8 engine), on Forest Colony normal]
EDIT for spelling and clarity.

I knew it, this is what my 4 AC/2 Jager was doing on the 12v12 Test Server, yet they said the heat penalty wasn't active on the test server.

No wonder I overheat so fast with the AC/2's. firing for a short time and it gets this weird heat spike after a few shots then goes on normal. Like AC/2's weren't hot enough already. =/

gotta love putting a massive penalty on weapons fired with .5 seconds with weapons that have a cooldown of .5 seconds

It is less than .5 seconds.
Shoulda mentioned this above, but my 4X has module slot researched, meaning it has max cooling skills applied/fast fire active.

well with pilot skills yes but its default fire rate is 0.5....

gotta love also these penalties are going to screw over a few trial mechs badly.... like new players really needed help overheating their mechs and blowing themselves up.

The AC/2 heat penalty is a known bug.
