Voted no, and only because the system is incomplete. Until every high alpha combo is addressed, I don't think the true effect of this mechanic will surface. A bucket only works once all of its holes are removed.

This will likely mean that the gauss rifle will have to be singled out and picked on. Something along the lines of "if you fire the GR within .5s of any weapon you will incur an X heat penalty." Something that drastic would have to come with some sort of buff, like muzzle velocity.

I would have rather seen a preventative countermeasure than a punishing one, but this is certainly better than nothing and a step in the right direction.

I think this heat scale penalty is waay too aggressive. Running a decent energy build feels like an exercise in futility now.

Those who are claiming the patch 'did nothing' aren't quite right - by its very nature of imposing restrictions, it very definitely 'did something'. How much... that's the question.

I primarily drop in organized 8-mans and tournament play; haven't had the chance to do so today, but at least in random drops, boats are fewer, if only a PPC or LLas shorter than normal. SRM usage is also up.

This patch may not be 'enough', but it's done something. We'll need a few days of testing to get a proper gauge.

Didn't vote, the poll is too biased.

But for the record: I don't like it in principle, being a bandaid fix instead of fixing the whole heat system ( let alone convergence).
BUT it seems to work from what I've seen ingame so far, so it is good for now.

Well, the only people who die to 6 PPC Stalkers were in the underhive anyways (4 PPC or 2 PPC + 2 ERPPC are the only viable ones), so obviously people at that level of play don't yet know how to bypass the system. Because they don't know how to cheat the system, they assume it works. Because they think it works, they like it.

This...only the bottom feeders ever had an issue getting wtfpwnd by -Insert weapons here- and would come here and cry about it./

The only real bitching I ever did was on the ECM, back before there was any counter.

AC20 is just slightly larger than a 0.75 cal.

This patch didn't do anything and everyone knew that it wouldn't do anything. What it does is 1) make it more difficult for new players and 2) punishes bad/dumb players that were doing a poor job of following the meta. Furthermore, while it scares the crap out of people running, say, dual AC/20s it did nothing but allow them to shift to dual Gauss thus giving them similar damage but at a much greater range for a loss in speed (oh no!), weapon vulnerability (on no!), and less heat sinks due to no heat (oh no!).

If you refer to dual Gauss Jägers.. those never scared me, because usually their armour is so damm low that even my Commando could duel one and have a fair fight.

also something they did in the previous patch made critical hits far more likely. so i would enjoy watching some jagers explode from MG fire.

I'm sensing the AC20 nerf is in part that there are very few mechs out there that can mount two. They do exist though but it does make me curious on some aspects of play.

See by implementing this heat scale it generally encourages boaters to either stagger their fire or adjust their build. This seems to be an interesting correlation to Table Top where it tends to hit random parts of a mech. Consider that a mech stagger firing over alpha striking in MWO probably cannot hit the same location twice.

You get the idea.

Not necceserily... fluff wise most models are supposed to fire in bursts. Maybe there is an AC20 that spits out INSANE amounts of .75cal shells ( can you call it a shell already at .75? Or is it still a bullet  ).
But since we got one shot ACs in game we are probably more in the 200mm range for AC20s, or even above since sarna mentions a model using 150mm shells to fire 10 round bursts.

Now imagine a Gauss Jäger against a MG Jäger fun build... I think I would just sit there and watch ;)

I'm withholding judgment till they are done. So far I see less PPC/LL boating and those that try usually do something stupid and shut down.

I saw a couple ER large laser stalkers running around...hilarity ensued.

I voted no:

I like that PPC boats have been pushed down a notch, that really needed to happen. But:

1) As far as I'm concerned their approach is fundamentally flawed - why add an unnecessary mechanic to the game when you have plenty already in place that you could tweak?

2) What on earth possessed them to nerf large lasers!? They didn't need a nerf, and now I can't use 4xLL properly. Yes I can chainfire, but it makes a massive difference, especially to hit and run builds like the 4xLL Flame.

I'm glad they did something about PPCs, but this kind of solution just isn't warranted; it's like trying to cool a room down by smashing holes in the wall with a sledgehammer rather than just opening a window.

Also, anyone who moaned about AC40 Jagers needing a nerf clearly didn't try aiming for their STs :)

While there are still a few tweeks that need to be made the overall gameplay i have seen in the last 20 odd matches seem to allow for a greater diversity in mechs and builds.

Ppl are no longer trying to cram the most ppc's they can fit into their machines, so apart from a few stalkers with 2ppc 2erppc which will be dealt with on the 30th i have been hit with everything apart from an lbx-10 and the kitchen sink.

There seems to be alot of complaining about the system in place, while it seems quite complicated for new players I can't really see what the issue is apart from maybe ppl don't like change and don't like having to now find a new build.

dont like the completely arbitary weapon limits (large laser in particular) and dont see why everyone should be forced to run tabletop builds as online != tabletop.
