2PPCs and a Gauss Rifle Standard Equipment

2PPCs and a Gauss Rifle are starting to become standard equipment for Atlas, Cataphract Jagermech, Highlander & Victors. As the new dominant no risk Alpha Strike.

I think it is about time Gauss Rifles were included with PPCs and ERPPCs in a single heat scale category called (EMP weapons).

Gauss rifles have nothing to do with EMPs

I'd be okay with that. Though to be fair the gauss does give them the risk of the weapon exploding. And since some mechs like the atlas have to torso mount it, that is a decent risk. Not saying that no exploding ammo and basically no heat isn't great but it does have a downside.

How about you, and the community generally, learn to deal with types of play you don't agree with? Find a counter?

Why are you so insistent on nerfing everything?

Besides 2PPG/GR was around for months on the JJ 3D with no issues. If you can't deal with that configuration you can't deal with anything.

As someone who has never used, only been hit by, this combination of weapons, I really don't feel like a 35-damage pinpoint Alpha is that threatening. Not mentioning that PPC's projectile speed is different from Gauss', as well as PPC's cooldown timer is not settled yet so it wouldn't be synced with Gauss so well, I really don't think sniper builds need to be nerfed further.

PPCs and Gauss work well together because they wor well heat-wise, but this combo isn't exactly pinpoint. PPCs speed is 2000, Gauss's is 1200, so it takes skill (or lack of it on the receiving end) to put both in one section outside close-mid range.

Devs decided that heat is going to be major balancing factor, so we can expect some slight nerf for Gauss in near future, becouse in high heat meta it could be somewhat OP.

It has been around for quite some time now, and i regularly saw it before this patch.
Manageable heat, 35pt dmg, and it allows you to carry backup weapons.
Catapults and cataphracts are running this setup for months.
2 PPC/Gauss+ Ssrm/srm backup highlanders are roaming the battlefield from the first second the highlander was released.

perhaps we should link the heat penalties of every weapon with every other weapon, set the limit to 1, and set the multiplier to 9000 heat, so that you will simply destroy yourself by overheating and the following internal damage when firing more than 1 weapon at the same time...

Gauss riffles are strong but die pretty easy to even light damage, they have their up side and their downside but are pretty solid.

35 damage hurts but won't kill most mech in one hit unless it's a head shot, compared to the sixty damage ppc boats delivered it's pretty tame.

Have played it that combination since closed beta...mid august.
I started to use all 3 weapons in Alpha mode in january first... till that day i always used chain fire for them - and i use chain fire only in seldom situations - (high risk shot at light mechs or similar)
So what happend?

I never had an issue with this build, or the x2 Gauss. Simply for the reason you can kiss your XL goodbye after that 3HP Gauss blows up in your face.

Yeah when i first started i bought a atlas K, so many deaths due to "ammo explosion" and i could never understand why, then i picked up the TT rulebook and all became clear, XL went in a cat and i bought a std engine.

You cant nerf every combo that does 30 damage because thats basically 99% of all configurations, hell jenners can do 30pt alphas with 6 mlas its not like only mechs mounting 2xppc and a gauss can do it.

Just try the build and you'll see that there is no reason to nerf 2xPPC/Gauss-Combos. It's actually not that easy to use thanks to the very different projectile speeds and that's exactly as it should be. Sniping shouldn't be impossible, just difficult.

I think asking to nerf the 2PPC/Gauss combo is a bit nit picky. Remember, the Awesome used to come stock with 3 PPCs and that hits about as hard. I don't like being alpha'd as much as the next guy, but I don't see this as a huge issue. I think it can be left for now.

Just give Gauss a recoil. Hell, the Heavy Gauss can knock the firing mech down in the TT, so the regular (and light) have to have something...

To be honest, as someone who's come up against this a fair bit and started running it when we found out about the boating penalties...

I think it's fine. 35 damage slightly-off-pinpoint (two projectile speeds) is fine. It's basically the threshold above which alpha becomes a problem in my opinion. It's a fairly heavy loadout, with the explosion-prone Gauss being, well, explosion prone. Hit's a kind of middle-ground where it's kind of as much ammo constrained as it is heat constrained.

I like it where it is, doesn't need penalty. If we keep doing this then eventually we'll be seeing +10 heat per weapon after the first you fire at once irrespective of type.
