Evo 2013 Has Concluded.....so Where Does Mwo Lie On The Scale Of Competitive Play?

No, I'm not directly comparing the fighting games of EVO 2013 to MWO, but this might be a question we should ask - will MWO ever be considered a "competitive" multiplayer gaming experience? World of warcraft has routinely hosted "arena" battles which are just people's characters fighting each other in specially designed arenas.

Does anyone else think MWO has what it takes to reach a similar level? Personally, I think we could. I think that clan vs. clan fights could be fun to watch, especially if you had multiple views to search through. The variety in mechs being used will give people "favorites" to watch as well as the usual emergence of popular players and names to chant during battles.

But I am only a more casual player who came from the MW4:Mercenaries game so I doubt I'll ever play enough to be "competitive" (for now :)). What do the true hardcore players think? Could we have our own version of EVO/Starcraft/LoL? Would we be featured alongside one of them? Perhaps with another game?

Nope.. it would be to boring.

"Look.. another PPC focused team consisting of nothing but stalkers!"

Take a look at the current 8 vs 8 meta and tell me that you would like to see a tournament where every team is build the exact same way because it turns out its the most effecient stat wise. Because unlike other games that have their math well hidden Battletechs system was allways very simple... wich means theres usually only one way to min/max.. wich then translates into very boring matches.

You see other games like lol allways have a counter to a certain team composition/play style. Here in mechwarrior... there really isnt much of a counter to anything. There are a couple of no brainer options that everyone can have like ECM and Seismic... but thats about it. You can have all that and lots of heavy hitting sniper guns. The amount of customisation is to much and there are not enough limitations game wise to take anything but the optimal lance composition... and since theres no limit EVERYONE will have the same loadout that proofed to be the most efficient number wise.

The game would have to undergo some tremendous balance changes to be league worthy.. not because of fairness but to make it more interesting for the viewer... not that we currently even have any way to watch an ongoing match and aparantly theres no such feature currently in the making.

It is generally anticipated that Community Warfare will be a competitive format, though not necessarily of the "tournament" variety.

That said, I'd agree that the game is likely too ponderous to really get much of a following for those who are not directly involved.

Not with the oversized invisible hit boxes on the world art.

Not really sure, hope MWO will never ever ever ever compete with WOW.
Tbh the thought of it scares me :D

But as MWO being a competitive game, back when there was 16 groups it was very competitive.
The 16 group would be all mixed up so you saw lots of mixed builds.
Wouldn't be hard to get that back again however wouldn't see anything like it till CW comes out.

Too many bugs and random elements. Fighting games run extremely tight and consistent to ensure fair play. MWO decides not to render textures, to randomly swallow mechs through the ground, or forget to connect half a team all the time.

Game isn't even close to be seriously competitive. Hopefully we'll see big changes before September.

Would love to see it. Will never happen. I watched EVO tourney online and you never see in mechwarrior the comebacks they pull off in those fighting games. Also the action is fast and furious and Mechwarrior is not that type of game. I did however love watching the Injustice, Marvel vs Capcom 3 ,and Street Fighter battles....wow those guys are amazing!

And pretend that the Akuma's are both the same Mech, with the same PPC's.

Or rather just pretend they are Akuma Mechs with PPC's, lol.

What MWO needs is a Solaris mode where full the customization we have now is possible (munchkin-ville) and something more limited for CW and normal game modes.

In the "old days" Solaris matches, the Mechs fought in weight classes just for the record. They were also fought in a coliseum format. Community Warfare has absolutely nothing to do Solaris deathmatch. The Solaris matches were used to earn C-Bills or glory. All the K/D ratio warriors fought there. V/R Dinochrome

Exactly, they fought with Munchkin Mechs.

CW and regular game modes should be the restrictive modes. What we have now is Team Death Match Solaris with caps.

MWO as an e-sport is the biggest MWO pipe dream I've heard yet.
