by 3050, people will look at the United States the same way you look at Old Rome. Quaint but who cares?

I was having this discussion with others on Teamspeak. Yes, it wouldn't be canon. And yes, it would be cool anyway ( with one loud detractor ). The players going for complete authenticity have the option to not buy them. The players going for cool and fun will have the option TO buy them. What's the big deal? Only you can see them and only when you turn your head. That's the downside of those items anyway, why not have fun with them?

Might as well... my only concern is bringing nationalism into an international game might detract. How will you feel when somebody is flying a Brazilian, Russian, Indian, or Chinese flag?

What an amazing multicultural world we live in where technology can bring together people from across the planet in real time?
The first people I ever played against in multiplayer anything were a pair of Portuguese brothers. People that get offended over what nationality another people are in a game are bound to be upset by anything.

This ^. I'm proud of my country, so others can be of theirs too. Lets display our nationalities and be proud of them and all we do to get along and work together.
