This is my idea of how the clan invasion should occur.

I'm assuming that 12 v 12 will be live at this point. Players would launch matches as they normally would. Red vs Blue as always...however the Devs have a group of players that will launch randomly and be included in the drop. I would only do this on the larger maps like alpine and the such. Players start derping around looking for the enemy, conquering resource points or what not and then .... then they see there death rolling down the hills. Out in the distance 12+ Dev Team members in clan mechs start wiping everyone out.

Awe it would be so good.

Yup. That's been suggested countless times because it would be an amazing experience for players. Not sure how likely PGI are to actually do something that cool though.

Clan mechs randomly dropping in PUGs and tearing **** up as a third unknown team would be UN-*******-BELIEVABLY ORGASMIC AND AMAZING!

Not 12 Clanners. 10. Two teams of 12 IS players drop as normal, and 10 Clan players drop somewhere well away from everyone else (cave in Forest Colony, Derelict Docks on Frozen City, hills between Theta and Kappa on Alpine, near Epsilon on Tourmaline, etc.). Clan is invite-only, and has scoring that severely punishes Clan pilots for breaking Zelbringen (each pilot kills his own target with no team help, etc.). Violations lead to bans from playing as a Clanner.

After a few months (maybe even half a year), open the Clans up to everybody (while still enforcing Zelbringen via rewards and penalties). No longer drop them as a third team, and have it be 12 IS v 10 C.

But what if they drop against a high-Elo 8-man premade and get their behinds kicked?

The practice of engaging opponents in single combat, the genesis of what would later become zellbrigen, was first started by Clan Coyote during the Operation Klondike.[3] Despite the losses incurred by this fighting method, Coyote's Khan Dana Kufahl would continue to encourage her Clan and others to practice this "honorable" form of warfare. Eventually the practice would be taken up by all of the Clans, to a greater or lesser degree, in part as a way to minimize losses in both lives and resources.[1][2] This is especially true when opposing commanders agreed to a duel to determine a battle's outcome.
During the Clan Invasion the rules of zellbrigen lapsed, primarily because the Inner Sphere had no concept of Clan cultural norms and, in some cases, exploited them for "underhanded" victories. By the end of the campaign zellbrigen had all but died out in several Clans, while most still reserve it for inter-Clan confrontations or against worthy Inner Sphere warriors. as you can see from the history of zellbrigen, it basically goes out the window if your opponent doesn't follow it.

1 - Zellbrigen, when followed properly, does not require that both sides follow it. If a Clanner really believes in it, then he'll follow it regardless of his opponent.

2 - Balance can trump other concerns. If Zellbrigen enforcement is a useful tool for balancing the Clans then by all means, hold the Clan players to a higher standard than the canon Clanners held themselves.

3 - The decline in Zellbrigen was a gradual thing, and my proposal could easily be modified to be a temporary thing (basically for the invite-only Clan teams that drop in 12v12 matches during the launch phase of the invasion) until the Clans go mainstream, at which point it could shift from penalties for violating it to rewards for following it.

using zell as a form to Balance Clans is a bad idea, that just tries to hide how broken clantech is.

i like clanmechs, but if they are overpowered and break the game its just bad.

both sides should have equal team sizes and both should have up and downsieds.
