IMO, very important as a team player for everyone to have AMS. When playing as a team, in a group, when LRM volleys come in, they are usually spread out to some degree, the more AMS firing the better. If the entire team were to load AMS it could nullify all the LRM boats out there to a good degree....Its only a 1.5 ton investment that will most likely save your life and your allies.

I’ve been trying to mount AMS on all my mechs now. Been seeing LRM’s ripping through the sky and actually quite amazed at the amount of missiles an AMS takes out. Usually see about 5 or 6 taken out with one AMS before the missiles hit. If everyone had one (some mechs two) it’d make for some pretty nice umbrellas. I have it on all my light mechs now and sometimes I just sit behind the missile boat and let my AMS tick away at the missiles he shoots lol.

AMS is totally un-needed on faster, more maneuverable mechs and for pilots who know how to use terrain and make perpendicular jinks away from missile flight path. I won't waste 1.5-2.5 tons and crit spaces on a system that only shoots down 5 missiles per volley. Assault and heavy brawlers that move in a group will benefit from mutual AMS coverage but for the most part it's pretty in-effective.

Last night I was running with two LRM 5's in a raven 3L just because no one had AMS and there was opportunity there to exploit. Other than not having AMS myself due to ECM, I was having fun either targeting for others with TAG or doing a circle 250 meters behind a mech. The ones with AMS I would either see during the strafing runs or watch it fire. Then just identify a target say 200 meters away an let him have it. I did have one game where it seemed that everyone had AMS and that was not a fun match since two mediums decided to take out the Raven. I was all red or orange with one ML left when my team finished them off.
Once, the other team had 4 missile boats and the team I was on ran out of AMS ammo just before the other team ran out of LRM ammo. So after the last volley we assaulted them.
Every other mech I have does run with AMS and always had even the DDC. There were some bad experiences with LRM Warrior online last year.

Personally I run AMS on any mech medium or higher in weight. If you don't use it and cover you've no reason to complain about LRM's.
One draw back to AMS is that it'll give away positions. Like how you can follow the LRM trails back to the launching mech you can also do the same with AMS. Ocasionally I'll launch a volley if I think a mech is in an area and if they have AMS it'll light them up.
I kinda wish AMS had an on/off toggle.

Like has been said, anything medium or above, I ALWAYS put AMS on my mech. I love my one Stalker that has deuce. But yes, a lance operating in concert with AMS on all units will shred most incoming LRMs before they make contact. But yeah, I've seen a lot of lights, especially Jenners, lately strapping on AMS. I spectated with one Jenner pilot the other day who apparently sacrificed his jumpjets for AMS.
If you're moving faster than 90kph, especially with jumpjets, you SHOULD be able to evade most LRMs. If not, it's a matter of practice.

I hear you, and I really should, but unfortunately I'm all about the gun. Lots of gun. Using AMS means the potential loss of gun.
I only use it on my dual AMS stalker, because dual AMS is awesome. Every other mech goes without, even though I curse like a sailor when an LRM boat merrily chews its way to my chewy center in two volleys.
