I really think we will^^
I would rather like to see matches with all weight classes and matches with seprated classes, just like in MW4:Mercenaries. This way you wouldnt have to make light mech forcefully a scout or an assault into a fortress. Well, we will see.

My thoughts are that I am not worrying about it. The mechs are going to be different to play, and suit different play styles that there will always be some diversity in the game, to the point that I believe when a match is getting set up, the players in each team will be picking different mechs to make sure certain roles will be put to use on the field.
What do I mean mechs are going to be different to play?
1. Speed.
2. Aiming speed.
3. Range of aiming movement, or degree of arm/torso twists.
4. Weapon placement and weapon styles.
5. Mech role. (support, long range, scout, defender, command etc...)
There will be more factors I am sure, but this means that the mechs will play differently enough that some mechs will not be fun for some playstyles meaning you will be seeing diversity on the field.
That is how I see it, and those are my thoughts.

I think Assaults will serve their purpose. They are a center piece (at least, thats how i view them in the table top). You put them on the field, and you either have to run away from it, or try to take it down.
Buuut the problem with more than 2 assault mechs is going to be mobility. If your opponent can out maneuver your assault mechs, they can kill them easily.

I know we have nothing better to do than to claim the sky is falling while we wait for a beta or a founder pack, but trust me, you are over-thinking things

I agree that an 'All Assault' match is not what we want but I do not think the dev's released, current plans will achieve that goal. What you forget is that all we have to do is leave one competant medium+ mech defending the base and you lone light will either be destroyed or ran-off.
The maps do not appear to be that large, so the speed of the light mech will not be as strategic as some think. The maps have to be large enough to give that smart, sneaky Jenner time to cap the base before the Stalker can get back in time to stop him,
I hope we get diversity but I think what we will have is World of Atlas' on Day One of release.

Depends a bit on how that his handled though: I could see a few possibilities:
(A) - Four players are grouped together for their side to drop, and arguments ensue about their relative tonnage/BPV
( - Players are grouped together, their tonnage/BPV calculated - and some scaling factor is deteremined later as to the C-bill outlay based on a mismatched conflict
(C) - Players, their mechs and loadouts are "queued up", and the computers picks amongst those and their affiliations to balance sides against one another
I only have a strong preference against A - I really don't like the idea of being told I need to run under some weight threshhold because someone else simply must have their Atlas for all seasons.
Option C has the potential to look a bit like the WoW LFG mechanic, where you might be waiting for a while for a particular role to populate for your mission.

That depends. If there is only 1 scout, that means the rest of the battle is 11 on 8 in favor of the scout's team. He just has to stay alive and keep the defenders' attention long enough for the rest of his company to demolish the opposing two lances.
Something I've learned over the years: Never underestimate the nuisance that a single buzzing bee can cause.

... still a lot of this would all depend on what game modes will eventualy come out in full release... ie defend or attack missions with just the single base ...etc
well i for one wont use an atlas lol i dont like em ~~meh
