Since alpha striking with 2 AC/20s causes quite a bit of heat, how would one go about balancing twin Gauss jagers?

Ac40's were balanced before, just the whiners that ran up to their faces and died came to ***** about it on the forums. I can't think of one instance where an AC40 jager killed me and I didn't think I'd been a bit of a dumbass letting him.
With that in mind, why would the double guass build need a nerf too?

You poke them with a stick an dthey explode.

Twin gauss looses just about any sniper shootout and brawlers are great at hitting them where it counts

hit them the same way you do a a/c 40 or hit arm hoping rifle explodes. No problem

Depends on what you are driving.
The Dual 20s was a nice kill with >90t below my ***.
the Dual Gauss had the bad advantatge that they can hit you at range...

Funny that some people say - to shoot at the arms? for what reason? Go for the Center or the Side is even faster to kill that thing.
So when dual Gauss should still be imbalanced.... i really have to ask myself why the Atlas is the only victim of the Gauss Nerf back in Gauss Kittys days.

AC40 could be balanced if ACs fired bursts.

Since one salvo from this silly build could kill or cripple almost any mech in the game aside from hitting the front armor on an assault mech, the only way somebody is "never being killed" by AC40's is that they are either sniping them to death from half-way across the map with some other meta-killer build, piloting a fast light and exploiting hit-detection bugs, or they are in a team with excellent coms and Seismic Sensors all the way around.

The AC40 build is "easy mode" and has no place in the game with the ability to place 40 damage on a single point with very little skill required, IMHO.

Not sure what you're getting at, but I'm doing just fine in this game now and before the recent patch, thanks.

I don't see why anyone would think the game *should* have the ability for a player to simply click and kill with a single, grouped alpha strike without any real thought required. Silliness like that negates cover, tactics, etc. Such simplicity requires little skill, is not really fun, nor is it really in-line with the spirit of Battletech or even MechWarrior.

If this is hinting at Clan tech, that stuff will break the game completely unless they implement it properly... and I have my doubts that will happen, sadly. :)

Duel gauss is nice but I decided to go another way, one AC 20 one AC 10 and four medium lasers for a mid range alpha of 50.

The down side is to few heat sinks for continued fire so you have to stagger your fire over longer skirmishes.

In my Ilya-Muromets I lose my Gauss faster than I lose my AC/20 in my HGN-733C. You'd say it was the extra armor. Maybe so, but whatever damage the arm takes tends to make the Gauss explode off the arm. But conversely, my HBK-4G loses it's AC/20 pretty darn fast only because 40 armor is easy to strip off and lose it. And, since everyone shoots torso, it would explain why it goes faster than if it were arm mounted.

AC40 Jagermech has always been a hit-or-miss build. A hit when your shots connect (haha, get it? I made a pun), and a miss when you run into pilots who are smart enough to aim at your giant side torsos (actually, it's pretty easy to accidentally hit its side torsos the things are so big).

With the new patch, it isn't really affected simply because of chain fire and weapon groups.

The reason you hit the arm or what ever the location the gauss is in is because of the low hit points of the weapon.

If I remember right that thing takes up a heap of crit space and has like 3 HP so destroying it is real easy.

Gauss Rifles need a minimum range anyway, so — make it more significant than tabletop, like 120-150 meters. Turn Gauss into a real choice.

Gauss has 3 hit points. AC/20 has 18. Once the armour is gone, the Gauss is going to blow up in a hurry. However, either the Gauss is in the arm, and no one is shooting at it; or it's in a side torso, and if you've lost the armour, you're as good as dead anyways if you're using an XL engine.

Because on a Gauss Jaer not CATapult the rifle is in the 40 armor arms, and when touched causes it to explode with at least 20pts of damage taking the arm and much of the side torso with it...

what game?
its who brings the most ppc+gauss builds to the field
not much of a game there.
solitaire is more exciting.
in fact, i'm going to go play with myself rather than deal with this broken pos game right now.

In a random 8 vs 8, your statement is true. but in coordinated 8 vs 8 premades... a different story. Also, the twin gauss mech, whether catapult or jager, has always been... A well balanced design. partly because of the weapon, and partly because of the weaknesses of the mechs themselves.
