Fellow ForumWarriors, I believe the window of opportunity is closing for a legitimate balance fix. Unless PGI can be convinced of how utterly ineffective heat penalties will be, I fear they will continue down a path of futility until it's too late (September 17).

This is not about my proposal - this is about all of the superior alternatives floating around. I would rather see them implement hardpoint restrictions and avoid 'mechs than implement such an arbitrary and awkward system. I would rather see a global cooldown. I would rather see anything to do with convergence. Heat has little to do with the problems we're seeing, and I think PGI is effectively trying to wash the dishes with fabric softener.

Regardless of where you stand on heat penalties or balance solutions in general, I call on you to run the cheesiest builds you have for the next two weeks. Break out anything running 2xPPC + 1xGR. Whip out the AC/40s. Hell, keep running that 4xPPC Stalker and see if it even affects it. I'll be in my Cheese King 732, but all flavors of win-button combat are welcome.

My one caveat is this: don't run PPC/ERPPC combinations to avoid the heat penalties. At that point, you're not demonstrating anything other than your propensity for abusing a broken mechanic for two weeks.

I'm not calling for this just to be an ******* troll, but as a legitimate and rigorous test of what is supposedly the fix to the current state of the game. They said this is their alpha strike fix, so let's see if it fixes the alpha strike builds. If their solution works, cheese will be ineffective, and we can all rejoice.

I hope it's the magic fix we've all been waiting for, but I'm not optimistic. All we can do as players is test the game to its fullest. Whether it works or doesn't, at least we'll know quickly.

You do realize everyone is already running the cheesiest builds....so this changes nothing?

I had a similar suggestion when it came to how broken ECM was (but not detailing a post about it)... and I don't think much came of it.

I also posted a "challenge" to PGI to use the 5K with 4MGs and their laser weapon of their choice because of how bad MGs were. I don't think PGI cared or even took it seriously, despite now getting some buffs to MGs, but still paltry in the grand scheme of things (cone of fire being my current general issue of contention).

So... I'm pretty sure this won't get anything done.

Edit:
Plus, this thread is already in K-Town.

The problem is when I run a Stalker with PPCs, my standard build since March/April has been 2x ERPPC + 2x PPC. Great idea overall, though. That is, if the game were fun to play.
