I pulled MWO down to play for the first time yesterday. Remembering my MW2 setup, I drove to my local Fry's and picked up a Saitek X52 HOTAS setup for it. If I'm going to play it, I'm going to play it the way I remember it.
It took some tweaking in the user.cfg to make it more responsive and reduce the dead zones, but it's surprisingly good. I'm surprisingly not, but hey I've only played like four matches so far, and the last MW game I played was over a decade ago.

imho this would be one of those games that would benefit greatly from oculus rift or a similar tech.

Beside throttle-control I use the follwing often used commands via stick (Cyborg V.1 got 5 bottons): 1: full stop; 2: night vision; 3: thermal vision; 4: team names; 5: overall teams composition
I don't use jump-jets - these have to be controlled by stick as well if used
It's just an idea - I feel well and comfortable with that. I use keyboard only for special commands like "cool flush" (kb: space for fast hitting) and "shotdown owerwhrite".
Try and please report your experience - I wanna learn about more effective control-layouts!

I got bad experiences with two of Thrustmaster stick controllers due to quality. I was player of Falcon 2, 3.0 an 4 once and my sticks ... Max one year...

although i do see a lot of complaints about tm, the tm-16000m generally gets excellent feedback. it uses magnets instead of springs and will thus not lose tension over time and are more movement sensitive compared to other joysticks. ive also seen many reviews and forum posts attesting how sturdy these things are. so im hoping for these things to last quite a bit.
its just such a pity mwo isnt optimized to use them.

I know it's unrelated, but honestly I don't mind third person. It's supposed to be a "Choose" First or Third person perspective. Play with others using the same perspective.
My concern's more along the lines of how many more systems like the "penalty" one we'll get before we see the real fixes.
In the meantime while drawing, I'm working on ideas of how to demonstrate weapon variants to add more variety to the weapons.
But on topic here... There is something important to note when using a joystick on MWO that has a throttle stick.
If you go to type in chat you will immediately stop in place.

The simple solution to that:
Before you chat hit whatever key you have bound to 100% throttle (make sure noob throttle decay is toggled off). Now go type, when you come back just mess with the throttle and it comes back to analog manual control.

I know it is a disadvantage but I could not imagine playing any Mechawarrior game without a full HOTAS rig.
What function are you using the pedals for BlackBelt?
Just booted MWO for the first time, I'm also using a full CH setup, but with a combatstick instead of fighterstick. But after some experimenting I'm ditching the pedals. I tried using them for torso twist but that was a non-starter.
So I switched twist to the throttle mini-stick's horizontal axis. Pitch and turn are on the combatstick's X and Y, throttle is on the throttle's slider axis of course...and that's that. The pedals just seemed redundant...
