I want to go on a mission, with real objectives. My humble suggestion:
Search and Rescue
Fluff: a VIP/Secret Intel/Droids we are looking for, has crash landed. The Mission objective is to recover the escape pod before the other team.
Particulars: Each map is assigned three or four more possible starting areas, bringing the total to five or six. Each team is randomly dropped onto one of them.
Then the Escape Pod is dropped into a random grid point. For balance purposes, the difference in distance from team A and B’s drop positions to the Escape Pod cannot be more than 100m. Example: If team A is 2000m from the escape pod, team B can be no further than 2100m from the escape pod.
The escape pod is not shown on the map until a unit from your team scouts it (positive targeting computer contact). Surrounding the pod is a capture area similar to what we have now with drop zones and resource capture points. To rescue the pod, your team must hold this area for 3 minutes.
Each team has a 3 minute clock where the game score would normally be in Assault mode. This clock counts down any time friendly mechs are inside the capture zone. If an enemy enters the zone, the clock stops. It also stops if all friendly mechs leave the zone. The first team to bring their clock to zero wins.
Mode Specific Rewards:
Scouting: the first unit from each team to scout the pod gets a bonus.
Capture Assist: each mech that helps to capture the pod by passing through the capture zone gets this reward.
Mission complete: successfully capture the pod.
Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.
Thank you for your time.
