- Development of this build:
(Skip this if you don't want to know the story behind this build :) i don't mind)

Having a big sum of C-Bills saved up I planed to treat myself to A fully customized mech to fit my play style to the letter, and so... this is what I came up with, :) lets dig in.

When I sit down and play MechWarrior: Online I like Being able to fill multiple roles, while going like hell. I read up on the forums that the dragon battlemech is a good candidate for a XL engine because of its small right/left torsos and its speed to engine weight ratio. I got to work and Two days later I came up with this build, going at 81(KPH) with multiple weapon systems, I think I did well for my self. Weapons include (but not limited to :D) medium lasers for bread and butter fire power, coupled with a ERPPC for long range engagements with an ultra AC/5 for damage while your mech cools off from energy weapon usage, and On top of all that an SRM6 Launcher for hard to hit targets on the move or to spread damage along a target's torso.

This build excels at hit and run tactics / also know as the Striker role type (use your speed to help dodge incoming fire while you unload your weapons) and very good flexibility with it multiple weapons systems, armor and speed.

Endo-Steel VS Ferro-Fibrous:
Most people use Endo-Steel internals for the tonnage bonus, but Instead I used Ferro-Fibrous armor for the 12% extra protection per ton. people say Endo-Steel is 110% better than Ferro-Fibrous and to never use that upgrade, can someone please explain why :D

- Specs -

- Speed:
81(KPH)
- Armor:
340 points of Ferro-Fibrous
- Weapons:
ERPPC
Ultra AC/5
Medium laser X2
SRM6
- Upgrades:
Double heat sinks
Ferro-Fibrous armor

- Version 2
SRM 6 Version

- The Good:
  • Flexible weapon loadout for change of role on the battlefield
  • Generous speed for its weight class and armament
  • Nice balanced between armor, weapons and speed
  • Small left/right Torso's help with the handicap of an XL Engine.
- The Bad
  • Light leg armor is not Legging proof ("All your Ankles belong to us" - MR Jenner)
  • Big CT generally means head on engagements are semi suicide.
  • No AMS, but the build can be edited to your liking if you don't like ducking for cover from LRM's :D
So... whatcha you think :D please post your changes to weapons and equipment. As you can probably tell, I'm new to the "BOAT ALL THE LAZORZ" idea but i'm up for suggestions.

Quick tip: I overheard cicadas like to stalk dragons in the night so watch yourself out there :D

Also sorry for my abysmal abuse of the :D face :D

Post away :D

FF armour won't give you higher armour value per se, it's a confusing way of saying that you only save tonnage by taking FF but right now you get more with Endo-Steel.

As for the build, I don't see what engine you use, but I reckon it's a STD300. Consider switching to XL and at LEAST a 330 and grind up the speed tweak so you can stretch your legs. A Dragons best friend is it's speed and agility, and 81 kph just won't cut it, unless you're making a sniper build (which is weird for a dragon).
I'd rather put a AC/10 and maybe pulse MLs or two PPCs. Don't cram in SRMs if you want a good punch with your arm weapons, save the weight for engine/heat sinks and ammo.

OP you need to start fresh with full armor, a 330xl or bigger, dhs, and endo. Now start adding weapon systems. The only dragon I bother to put SRMs on is the 1n. The 1c I use has 2 erppc in left torso and 2 mlasers in left arm and moves @ 98 kph. The only time I would use 300 or smaller engine is on the Flame with ac20.

I run a very similar build to yours with great success. Essentially I sacrifice a bit of range for more punch.

And as mentioned, you'll save more weight with Endo-Steel. FF is basically only used after you have Endo-steel if you have room for it.

I also run a 1N similar to your 1C. Not quite as successful with it as I am with the 1C, but it still runs great.

Looking at the postes you guy's have made, everyone got good suggestions but... I think the Ultra AC/5 is better than the AC/10

AC/10 VS Ultra AC/5:
If fired at the right rate of fire, the Ultra AC/5 can have a better DPS than the AC/10 without jamming. Also the high rate of fire keeps the enemy rocking, making it hard to return fire. The AC/10 raw damage is 10, where the Ultra AC/5 is 5. See a pattern ;). So in hit and run situations, most of the time the window to attack is so small where i can get 1-3 ultra shots where i could only get one AC/10 off. This is where the Ultra comes in useful for me. One top of that the Ultra in my build is being used as a backup when my battlemech's heat is cooking off, did i mention it weighs a lot less :P.
MechWarrior: Online Weapon Wiki Page http://mwo.gamepedia...e:Weapons_Table

Changes:
I did make some suggested changes to my build, first one being Endo. With the extra tonnage, I ripped out the two medium lasers and replaced them with medium pulse lasers, also removing 2 points of armor from the leg to get them in. I left the SRM 6 in because where I live the internet is not very good leading to doggy hitbox registration and i need a bane stick to hit them pesky lights. The only way i could fit a bigger engine without messing with the build to much is to remove my C.A.S.E, Beagle active probe or some of my Double heat sinks. The current Engine (XL 300) get me up to a decent speed so I can outrun most mechs, (except lights :( ) and being able to run round behind the enemy, unload my weapons without overheating and run back in to cover.

Going for speed tweak now (what a time for a premium sale :D) but still post suggestions and see what we can come up with. I will update the main post with the new build changes ASP.

Few things:

Ammo in torso + XL = bad day. Case doesn't matter - you lose a side torso, your engine goes poof. Holding on target w/ the dragon can be tricky... UAC5 is situational.

Easier build:

XL350
4MLAS
Gauss
DHS
Endo

Gauss+MLAS is 35pts at a fairly close/pinpoint spot. Full speed, unload into back/ct of someone, bail. Gauss and mlas have very similar CD so they'll be up about the same time.

Same build I run on the flame.

Drop the missiles. They are useless on Dragons other than the 1N. Go fast. A XL325 is really necessary, and the XL350 should be used whenever possible.

Mah baby looks like this. You can go faster by using an AC10 and a XL350, but it requires more careful aiming at long range, has worse heat, and provides a lower alphastrike.

OP, running a 300 xl fits the meta from 6 months ago, it's not fast enough for today's play style. Dragons flank/stike and this requires speed, 89kph just won't cut it.

XL300 is way too low for a Dragon, go for 330-350 and use your speed instead of SRMs to fend off lights.

Drop the SRMs and use a bigger engine.

I also dropped the CASE and moved the ammo to the legs and used the extra points to add armor. I don't recommend anything below 38 armor on a Dragon's legs. I also removed the 10 of the 20 armor from the rear ct and moved it to the front. You should always heavily armor your front on the Dragon.
