They said they want to put melee in the game eventually :)

I would like DFA first, but... let's start with baby steps.

They need to, soon.

And why stop at ripping off its leg? Why not just pick it up and smash it into other 'Mechs!?

"AH GOD!!!"

"Whats going on!?"

"I'M BEING CLUBBED TO DEATH BY AN ATLAS WIELDING A COMMANDO!!!!"

"I... What... I don't even....."

This system should be removed and reimplemented after they do a smoothing pass on all the maps. Getting stuck on pebbles is such bollocks.

Completely agree.

You have a 100 ton juggernaught of death? Too bad, pebbles will stop that s**t, and you can't crush em.

You have a 25 ton 'Mech with long, graceful, gazelle legs built for mobility? Pebbles'll stop you cold, deal with it.

snip!.....

I think a basic terrain mapping system, with colored areas, guide systems, and general smart terrain mapping, is very possible.

snip!....

This is how it would work:

You are rolling an Atlas with a STD-260 engine. You come across a 45* incline, and activate the Terrain Mapping System for your 'Mech. The TMS will have pre-loaded a map-wide overlay, so you can instantly see passable terrain, both in Real-Time or on your Map.

...snip!....

You just won the match thanks to TMS and it's efficient pathfinding systems.

Whilst I like what the new movement system does, it just needs some adjusting to fix tiny sharp slopes blocking etc etc then some map passes to change some things, this is probably the best idea I have heard in regards to making it easier to find where you can and cant go.

A simple HUD overlay in a simple colour gradient that you activate just like thermal vision etc, red = it will stop you, green = you can walk here, yellow = will slow you etc.

Whilst not exactly needed 100% imo, its still probably the best compromise and way to help newer players.

Yep, that was my idea.

With the TMS, you can learn maps much quicker, until you don't even need the overlay anymore. JJ's wouldn't be factored in, but personally, I think the TMS would help anyway for when you want to mountain-goat that Highlander/Victor up a cliff.

If I remember correctly. In TT mechs CAN go up steep slopes, but it used more movement points to do so. The larger the mech the less points it had to work with. So the new slope system works... although not perfect. It is a step in the right direction. I think it's fair that assaults can't rock climb. It gives lights and mediums a advantage in the movement category and rightfully so.

Big mechs like the Atlas basically SUCK now. The poptart highlander is basically the only really useful Assault mech.

Please adjust the movement changes so that big mechs can get up maybe 25% more hills. A middle ground. No pun intended.

Stop running with 300 rated engines.

If you aren't running 64 hp/h you're doing it wrong.

If you already are, make sure to zig-zag as you go up hills. It helps a TON.

The movement restrictions tilted the balance slightly back to mediums and lights again.

The game is still far too dominated by Assaults. But the movement restrictions are a positive step to maker smaller Mechs more viable.

Max an Atlas can pick up using BOTH arms is 10 tons. Mechs are actually quite weak compared to humans percentagewise.

This guy knows what's going on. Assaults are clearly getting the shaft right now. Can someone start a thread on how to make assaults viable again?

i think every assault needs a ballistic slot and at least 2 energy slots, and go at least 70kph. After these changes you will see more assaults player, all i see now are mediums running around everywhere

It's a trade-off. Mate runs an Atlas, I run a Victor. I have have one ac/20, one srm6 and two large lasers. He sports something like one ac/20, two srm6 and four lasers. He has 20 tons more which he invested into firepower so he has considerable more, plus more armor and is only about 5 kph slower.

I therefore are faster (and it'll be 10kph with speedtweak that he already has) and invested two to three full tons into the ability to climp up small hills.

Firepower <------> Maneuverability

You can't have both. You want it, I get it, but you're forbidden. Deal with it. :)

LOL yeah of course. And they should also all carry jumpjets, get a bonus on their heat efficency and should have an "i-win" button, right? :P

Yeah, buff assaults and make lights/mediums even more useless on the grand scale!

Rip off both arms and a leg, that's bound to be at least 15 tons right there.

You only need one limb to swing a Commando like a club.

Besides, Atlas can plant their fists clean through Heavies and such without much effort, I find it odd they can't pick up more than 10 tons. Seems like an artificial limit to me, especially since 'Mechs use myomer muscles, which pound for pound are exponentially stronger than human muscle tissue.
