There is a pinned response thread from PGI

current issue seems to be AMD + Avast

PGI still working longer term solution

It is not consistent. I have an AMD Phenom II x4 and a Radeon 6970 and MWO is running just fine after the patch .. it just took a long time to download the patch. So there is likely more to the issue than just the CPU though that seems to be a common element.
Also, if all AMD CPUs were affected there would be hundreds or thousands of replies in this thread rather than 30 or so.
This is why they need each person with the issue to submit a report including dxdiag results and any crash dump generated in the MWO USER directory. PGI has the tools to find the common elements but they need the data to work with, unfortunately, just saying it crashes or hangs at "Please wait .." doesn't give them enough information to isolate the problem.
That's true. So I already sent in a report with details + files and got a reply :-) The problem is the combination of AMD CPU and Avast! The only work around (and I don't recommend this) is to uninstall Avast then install another fee virus scanner. BUT a fix in is the works I'm told so I'm waiting for that :-)

Every time I restart my computer and go to play the game again, it asks me to redownload the full 2.48+ GB patch. This has been happening for two days now. I also got an "Error loading RS Feed! Root element is missing" message when I clicked on the patcher today, followed by once again requesting a redownload. Never had this issue before, don't use Avast. I guess I'll be uninstalling the whole game for now.

I logged in to play Saturday, only to get locked up with a 2.5 Gb update (yes I've been keeping it up to date). managed to sneak a few games in after the update, but did not get a chance to log in again until this morning, and again, 2.56 Gb update.
Saturday:
This morning:
I've killed the patcher and I'll run the repair utility. Thankfully I don't have a bandwidth cap so the 5 Gb isn't a horrible loss, but I really don't understand the cause. Every other patch has been 5 min tops. 1.5 hour patch is unbearable.
I have an AMD and I use Avast, but as I was able to play after the patch on Saturday, I wonder if this is the same issue.
Thank you,
Tirick

I am having root element missing error, and RSS feed error since the last patch.
