Ive looked around as much as i can and while i dont see anywhere a/c 2 listed as being effected by the new heat scaling, on my 4 a/c 2 cataphract the heat most definatly scales now when fireing fast. . . anyone else notice this / wondering if this is (hopefully) a bug?

Currently it heat scales with even 2, it's either a bug or a really good troll by the devs. I'd switch to AC5's for now.

im thinking bug. . . did some more testing with this, still using the 4 A/C 2s.
my original setup had them firing with about 0.1 delay between the first 4 shots with the same .1 second delay before repeating.
for some reason i can still fire that initial 4 barrage at the .1 delay, but need a .35 second delay (which is very noticeable even though small numbers) before the repeat and the heat doesnt act different at all.
just very odd

Confirmed this myself. I'm guessing that with the way it's setup there has to be a minimum time before shots of weapons of the same type to reset the heat penalty. Chain firing AC-2 simply fire too fast to ever reset the multiplier, and in fact cause it to increase exponentially as you continue to fire. Firing even 2 of them like this causes extreme heat from the already hot AC-2.
Best guess is this is unintended as chain firing AC-2 was hardly overpowered (at least since the rocking is pretty much gone), just looked cooler. It also has the opposite effect of the other heat penalized weapons. On every other gun it promotes chain firing, for the AC-2 in completely breaks it.

The HPS wasn't taken into account readily when the fire rate was adjusted long ago. It is the lowest heat generating Autocannon that even SHS could handle (obviously) in Battle Tech. The Prime Jager variant for example was heat neutral standing still with all its weapons. Such "terrifying" heat neutrality.
Try testing with just a BJ-1 with its stock 2 AC/2's, for example, the heat is tremendous such that SHS can't handle it, and DHS requires the stock build to switch to DHS to be somewhat viable.
