Issue: There's been discussion regarding the heat penalty for alpha-strike with the higher end weapons all over the forums, and one of the major complaints is that certain mechs can no longer function (or at least alpha strike) in their intended role - the Awesome 8Q, an all energy mech with 3 PPC's standard, being the prime example of this.

Proposal: So, as a possible solution for this, I propose a chassis tweak where any mech that can only carry weapons of a single type (all energy, ballistic, or missile) would gain a +1 bonus to the number of weapons they can use of that type before suffering heat penalties. So, a stock Awesome 8Q would be able to alpha with the 3 PPC's in compensation for the fact that its loadout options are rather limited since it can only use 1 type of weapon and thus runs into heat penalties often.

Effects: This would affect a few chassis right now - the Catapult A1, the Awesome 8Q, and the Hunchback 4P (I might have missed a few.) Considering how few of them I've seen anywhere these days after the heat penalty, it's probably not a bad thing. The Awesome - at least one version of it - would be able to operate in its intended role as a heavy energy "boat." The Catapult would be a better Splat-Cat, though I'm not sure how often those crop up anymore, and the Hunchback would at least have a higher chance of having some fun with a silly number of small or medium lasers.

Anyway, this is just a proposal. Since part of the goal of the heat penalty system was to encourage more diverse builds (along with reducing the effectiveness of high-power alpha striikes), it would be nice to give a bit of help to mech chassis that, by their design, are heavily limited in their weapon options.

Thoughts?

Or just get rid of the stupid heat fix, use TT heat values for PPCs and revamp the heat scale and disspation to include penalties. I've never shot 6 PPCs at once but I have no problem with others doing it if the heat scale made sense.

I actually really like that suggestion. I'd assume if a manufacturer produced a product designed to use a certain group of other products, they would optimize their product for said other products.
