Why not use actual planet names and custom mech configs('hero mechs') from actual BattleTech? They usually have a lot better backstory than the stuff you guys write up for your custom content. It really makes me cringe to read some of the stuff you guys put out. No offense. Maybe hire someone who has worked at a newspaper and knows how to write(better) or something?

... If you had seen some of my local newspapers you might not think having them do it would be such a great idea... :|

first of all, if they were to use actual names of planets in the maps (let's say Twycross just for kicks and giggles), then suddenly that map can't be used for say Woodstock, because even though both are forest type worlds (parts at least), you can't double up on the usage. Meanwhile if you have several forest maps, then those can be used at random for that planet when CW starts having territory control. They're not trying to be "creative" they're being efficient.
Now to your other point with the Hero Mechs. I would like to see some of the more popular named mechs as well but that doesn't always work. The big reason is for the meta game. If a "hero" version of a mech exists but is largely the same as several of the variants already out there, what good does it do? That mech won't sell for MC, when you can have the same thing for Cbills. Again variety though, like the Misery adding a ballistic port for the stalker that stalkers typically don't have, or the Ilya that has it's 3 ballistic ports spread through both arms and a torso, which no other cataphract (or most other mechs) can do.
So what if the writing for the profiles of the mechs isn't what you like. If it makes you cringe, the simple solution is to not read them. No one is forcing you to.
