Something I noticed is that even on the lowest quality option, the models are still full quality in regards to poly count. For people with weaker GPUs, this is just as bad as, if not worse than, high-quality textures. Now, from exploring the game files (really, just the mech models), I know that low quality models already exist- the game uses them on far-away mechs. Why not have an option to use only the lowest-quality mech models?

I feel there's a lot that the quality options are lacking. There are a bunch of features that most games allow you to adjust independent of other quality settings that are glomped into grab-bags, and there have been a number of graphical features removed or scaled back for all qualities rather than just reserving them for the "ULTRA" setting. You'd think options like this would make debugging easier, eg to check whether a render problem is the fault of a particular effect without editing the config or typing a bunch of console commands. I'm sure there's some reason PGI does it that way, but I'd love for them to talk about that sort of thing more often, like the fascinating writeup they did for the HUD bug fix.

This is a hard one for me. I agree that we should have control over the graphical settings so that we can trade off image quality for frame rate on the lower powered graphics cards. But personally, I promote anything that improves the graphical content of MWO and am willing to spend a bit more on the Graphics card to incorporate any new features. To this end I have recently acquired a Sapphire HD 7790 OC a real bargain at £126.
