The massive response to the release of Sarah's Mech speaks for itself. PGI and the MWO player community have done a wonderful thing.
Now let's do more.
I know this community. How many of us are driving multiple Hero and Champion mechs around the battlefield? How many of us are camo and paint junkies, blazing across the Inner Sphere in style. A lot of us have decent, independent incomes, and even though MWO is free-to-play and not pay-to-win, we like financially supporting something we care about.
I think the price point of Sarah's Mech was a good move, striking a smart balance between mass accessibility and feeling like a genuine contribution. But in the lead up to today, I had contemplated how much I would be willing to donate, and I know others were doing the same. I was, and am, willing and able to donate more. So that's what I've done.
PGI has posted a list of international charities in the FAQ thread for Sarah's Mech. I picked one, and met my mental limit. Won't you consider doing the same? You were willing to give that much before...why back off now? If you hadn't thought of it before today, then please consider it now.
I've seen the gaming community do itself proud any number of times, and it's doing so again as we speak. **** cancer. Let's do more. Please consider buying Sarah's Mech if you haven't already, and then donating independently to the cancer charity of your choice.
**** Cancer. Let's Do More.

Then do it and stop posting about it. This isn't the place to rant about how altruistic you are. This is a forum about MWO. There are thousands of better websites to post this on.
If you want to contribute to a very worthy cause, more power to you. Just do so without telling everyone how awesome you are for doing it.

Nevertheless, I hope you donate if you can.

So this didn't fit in the "Sarah's Mech" topic? Why creating a new thread about it? Why in the feature suggestion forum?
Anyaways, I don't care about how much money you spend on something or how good of a human being you are. Just do whatever you need to do and stop telling everyone about it.

Its just a psychological effect that people give more when there's something given in return. There's so many charity dinners, charity raffles, charity auctions, and so on for a reason. People respond more and give more when its not a direct contribution.

I used a dedicated thread because I wanted to call extra attention to PGI's suggestion that players could go above and beyond with their contributions. I didn't think adding it to the end of an existing thread, which it would not be the title subject of, would accomplish that. I used this subforum because it's where the biggest community-generated general Sarah's Mech thread lives; none of the subforum descriptions sounded like particularly good fits.
I would be perfectly happy if moderators felt it should be moved to a different forum or combined with an existing thread.
In the initial post I briefly mention my own thoughts and actions as an effort to mirror the likely thoughts of others, to frame it as an easy action to take, and to put my money where my mouth was. My sole intention was to encourage donation toward what most of us would agree is a good cause; both grandstanding and (as I'm now doing) defending my post only distract from and sour that goal. Having seen some of the weirdness that arose in earlier threads about this effort I specifically sought to avoid that result. If I failed to do so then I wholeheartedly apologize.

Don't think you're the one who should be apologizing Jaranath.
Only on the interwebs will you find people who are willing to take time out of their day to berate someone for championing a good cause and spreading the word.
Friend request inbound to the guy trying to raise more funds for Cancer Research. Give more if you can folks

"Then do it and stop posting about it."
"...stop telling everyone about it."
Okay, if they're going to take that approach, I will too:
Straighten up...please.
This was a call to others who might be thinking about doing more, not a call for attention to how altruistic he is. Jaranath creating a dedicated thread is fine. This doesn't really feel like the place to argue whether it's appropriate to do so, and although it's certainly within anyone's right to either opinion, it would be better to do it with a little less negativity than a rather snobbish (and inaccurate) generalization of his purpose. Maybe you're having a bad day. We all do. Still...
Jaranath, good move. Sarah's story is powerful and I'm glad there has been as much as support as we've seen. It's incredible that almost a tenth of a million dollars from this community alone has been raised through this charity. You're all awesome.
I for one can't wait to take that JR7 for a spin.
