It would be helpfull if you could select a preset lance name during group creation, a lance name that would give the other players of your side an Idea what kind of Mechs you bring to the battle and which role you want to play in game.
Two smaller groups with the same selecte name could be put together in the same lance.

Possible Lance names could be:
Scout Lance (if your are fast and want to scout, TAG & cap)
Artillery Lance (LRM Boats)
Assault Lance (the close combat guys)
Fire Lance (PPCs/Gauss/ACs...)

If you don't have a group it would be nice to pick a Lance name so that the Game can put you together with players that want to fullfill the same role on the battlefield as you.

I agree. lances work best with same speed mechs or 1 class apart at the greatest. having scouts, mediums, lrms, etc in lance groups which 4 friends can join together and then combining them smartly for matches 12v12 would be fantastic.
