Why is the six PPC stalker still viable?
  • Fire PPC's at three quarter to one second intervals
  • Assume a Hull down position where only ears and Torso mounts clear hills
  • Fire 12 PPC's before powering down in as little as 9 seconds
  • I repeat 120 damage in 9 seconds.
Discuss.

I will be using my Six PPC Stalker all night for data collection and will post my findings.

Please note I Detest cheese builds. But I must see how far down the rabbit hole goes.

The 4 PPC/ 2 PPC + 2 ERPPC Stalker has been better than the 6 PPC Stalker for quite some time, and it still is because the 6 PPC variation needs to make too many sacrifices (XL or tiny STD engine, armor shaved off).

We are not talking about alphas, we are talking about the insane sustainable damage.

There is no other weapon where you can put 120 pinpoint damage down range in a nine second window.

Still, the 6 PPC Stalker can't sustain it very long due to not being able to have very many heat sinks (and also has XL/small engine problems).

That is more than enough time for the target to take cover and/or shoot back at you (and his buddies, if they're around him).

Yes - the way it should be. Heat penalties were only to stop alpha warrior online.
Not to restrict what your favourite build is.

I've been able to sustain constant fire for 30 seconds 30 PPCs before an issue on Frozen City.

i see 4 PPC stalkers all the time that almost never shut down. They just start out firing at 3/4 second intervals until they are over 50%. Once at 50% they just start firing one at a time at 1 second intervals until at 80%. Then they walk away for like 6 seconds and repeat. Generally, 500 to 900 damage a match.

The heat penalty only gets in the way of alpha warrior if you boat past the max alpha limit. For builds that don't reach max alpha, alpha striking is still more effective than chain firing most of the time.

18 DHS.
73 heat threshold with pilot trees.
2.989 heat lost per second
9 seconds of fire at 1 shot per every three quarter second equals 96 heat, subtract 26 heat from nine seconds.

70 heat, riding the heat threshold from 12 shots. Time to cooldown 24 seconds.

18 Dubs? How much armor and engine are you sacrificing on that thing?

EDIT: I'm guessing XL 300 engine with the armor values shown in the OP? That makes your giant sides very vulnerable, especially considering that you don't have max armor on them.

I posted the build, just got out of a 1k damage match. (recorded for prosparity)

The build in the OP has only 6 heat sinks and no engine. ;)

I'm guessing that it's supposed to have an XL 300 with 2 slotted dubs.

EDIT: Yup, guessed correctly.

Sorry, nothing changed, except inserting the engine, link is fixed.

Personally, I have a much "better" idea to show PGI how bad these changes are.

But.. feel free to carry on the meta... which is still the same as the old meta.

Does it involves Highlanders? ;)

No, but I used my winnings to give my "Easy Mode" mech a more permanent home.

Is anyone actually surprised?

Someone who can actually aim subsequent shots isn't very hard hit by this, it just means that all the guys who were playing peek+alpha+hide need to learn a new trick.

Not really... except newbies that try to emulate it will probably alpha and blow themselves out... and then complain that you're hacking. ;)

Well, since the patch, I've had to change a little bit in the Highlander... not the build, but how I alpha. The thing is... the 35 pt alpha is still very cool, and I get an extra ERPPC shot if I want to take it... and if I take it after the 5 second "wait", it's doesn't really bring my heat up that much (2 PPCs will still generate more heat than 1 ERPPC, so yay). So yay... I'm more heat efficient. The meta has not changed... if anything, there's actually more of it.

If the heat scale is designed to stop high pinpoint alphas, then my 2 ER PPC 2 Gauss Muromets is not suffering from any heat penalty. Nice job PGI.
