The 3PV drone counts as the players head. If the drone takes damage, it takes armor off the head.
Here is where my idea splits in two possible concepts.
Red Pill. If all head armor is removed, you can't use the drone. If the drone takes more then your head armor in damage (i.e 1 Shot), it is destroyed, and damage does not transfer to internals for the head.
Blue Pill. All damage goes to the players head. If the drone is destroyed, so is your head.
This is, in theory to help balances 3PV. Good for brawling but if you ridge hump or peak around corners, you might not keep your head through it.

In order for this to work, people couldn't tap-in-tap-out with a hotkey. There would have to be several seconds cooldown, and a large enough target for them someone to hit. Also it should be like a beacon. So that anyone in the vicinity can easily see it. I would even go as far to say that the person should show up on radar for the duration if within the 800m radar distance. Even if they have ECM.

Interesting thoughts. I added this as a possible part of a solution. It is by no means a whole answer to the problem that is 3PV. Thank you for the feedback.

The whole 3PV thing is already what it is...trying to "balance" it by allowing players to shoot it down defeats the purpose of introducing it in the first place. It's not a piece of gear...it's an optional perspective mode explained away with some tacked on fluff (i.e. floating drone camera).
3PV/1PV Easy mode is pretty much what it's going to be. If you don't like it, play Hardcore mode (coming soon) which is 1PV only.
I have a thread with some suggestions for balancing the two different difficulty modes once they're implemented here:
