In the past week or so I have seen like 3 or 4 threads started with people worrying that everyone will just ultimately hop in an Atlas and stomp around as has happened in previous MW games. They do this in spite of:
1) The Devs having specifically said that they ware working VERY hard to make sure that does not happen and that every level of 'Mech will be useful in the context of a battle and
2) There are VERY easy ways to prevent this from happening.
An Example (SPECULATION):
Q: Lets assume that most battles are company on company with each side deploying 3 lances. How do you ensure that you don't have just 12 Atlas pilots on each side?
A: Drop Weight Limit. Yes each side has 12 'Mechs but if each side can only deploy 650 tons worth of units then it is impossible for someone to take nothing but Atlas. In fact if you take just 4 of them that eats up well over half of your drop weight, leaving only 250 for the other 8 'Mechs (meaning an average weight of 30T for the rest of your units).
With a Drop Weight Limit those heaviest 'Mechs are a huge portion of your available force and limit what everyone else can take. On the flip side if someone goes with a smaller medium or light they suddenly become an asset because it frees up additional tons for someone piloting a heavy or assault.
This is a single solid mechanism that is both easy to implement and immediately ensures that not everyone stomps around in assaults without even beginning to consider the value of people who are very good at scouting or harassing with mobile mediums or aspects like how the ability to ensure force is able to be applied where it is needed even begin to be considered.
I find it very unlikely that something similar has not been put into effect with regards to MWO. Will things be perfectly balanced? Almost certainly not, and I expect tweaks to be made after the official launch that will probably cause a lot of angst, however for now the majority of us don't know enough to even have an opinion.
TL;DR: You aren't playing the game yet and it isn't released. Hold off your chicken little cries until we actually know for sure how things work.

I am totally concerned about cooling my assault mech. Do you know how hard it is to avoid shutdown a custom Atlas running 4 PPCs. Everyone else in their Centurian and Dragon with their low heat Autocannons, it is ridiculous. PGI needs to address the cooling problems with assault mechs NOW! or everyone will be using mediums.

The game is going to pull mechs from each weight class per match. You can pretty much bet on that.
You would always have the same amount of light/med/heavy/assaults.

Assaults are prime targets for LRM carrying mechs because they are big and slow. If the devs hold true to their word and are attempting to balance the mechs, I imagine assault mechs would have slower torso rotation and/or inability to turn torso past certain angles, worse elevation/depression angles for their guns, and accelerate, move, and turn much slower than other mechs. Something people often forget is that mechs have weaker rear armor too, and quick mechs will probably be able to dig into it.
Took me about a minute to think of those ideas. I imagine the dev team has gone through them and dozens of other ideas by now, and selected most of what they're looking for.
