I'm getting audio crackling and 'popping' noises with MWO. Mostly it's happening where there are a lot of the same sound being played, like at the start of a match when everyone's stepping sounds are all playing at the same time or when around machine gun or fast A/C fire.

In an attempt to fix this, I've posted into user.cfg a few lines from another thread that purported to help, and have turned my audio format to 16 bit 44.1khz. Also tried a different sound card and a headset. And tried the 'repair' thingy. None of these did enough of an improvement for me to really notice.

Am I the only one who still has this problem? No one else seems to be posting about it anymore...

Ya ,I get it pretty bad sometimes. Its much more problematic this last few patches.

Good to know it isn't just me.

Its gotten a lot worse with 12v12. When its going on, all that MG fire in open places crackles once in every sample. Couple of times a second of that is ear-tearing!

I also get this bug, especially on both Forest Colony maps.

Oh, I thought this was just a matter of my somewhat broken headset being... well broken. But yeah, getting this as well at times.

Some of the cracking may be related to the problems with 7.1 audio.

The Dev.'s have stated there is a current problem with enabling 7.1 at this time. If you switch to 5.1 audio for the game it should solve the cracking noises. I use 5.1 with my Sub turned off, Creative SB X-Fi drivers and have never had cracking sounds.

Additionally, ensure that if you have a dedicated sound card that the "on board" sound is disabled.(normally turned off in the Bios)

Advise if switching to 5.1 for this game resolves your issues.

I get this too - onboard sound on a Maximus V, Had it previously with a SB Recon3d Fatal1ty edition too.

I'm getting this too and it's anoying as hell ! I'm at the verge of stopping to play because of it. There's nothing more irritating than bad sounds. I've tried using earphones, headsets and subs and i'm still having this. I'm sure it's an in-game problem and they should fix this ASAP.

I too get this on a new rig i just built for a guy. got it using a usb headset, only started after a couple of matches.

I am new to the game and I am experiencing some significant audio crackling. The problem is not limited to matches. I also hear it on the launch screen and intro videos. This is a rather old post, so has there ever been a fix identified for this issue?

It was large and in charge yesterday and was swiftly followed by 3 game crashes. I rebooted and everything started working ok again.
