Eight medium lasers moving at 116 top speed with 41% cooling efficiency - and it's cheap as hell for anyone who's already got a maxed-out engine in their RVN-3L. I seem to recall some noise from the Olde Types around here...something along the lines of a 118-kph HBK-4P that used to be the terror of the playground?
Sure, the BJ-1X has to use an XL engine to do it...but it's still eight medium lasers moving at 116kph with nineteen DHS' worth of cooling on top of its efficiencies. Go ahead and tell me that such a machine is an epic fail, good sir. I dare yaz.

Except for the one variant that's got 8 energy hardpoints, a decent engine size limit, and only 80 degrees of torso twist (with no arm twist).

You can pretty much know whether you are going to win or lose a PUG match right now based on how many (lose) or few (win) BlackJacks are on your team.

It carries deceptively high fire power for its weight though (as in when piloting it, I feel underpowered but the scoreboard says otherwise).
All of these *feelings* make me *feel* underwhelmed. Lets see if my opinions stand when I have all basic efficiencies unlocked though. It's cheap enough that I can invest in a couple variants without breaking the bank though. It's engine caps are at awkward levels though, buying a 200xl (the weight sweet spot) or 235xl (max engine for most variants) are really annoying since I can't use the engines to great effect with any other mechs. And I never bothered with a 295xl for my Raven 3L since the 280 and 300 are my workhorse engines I base most mechs around.

I gave 1X a run, with 6 ML, 2 SL an STD 295 engine, DHS, endo, and maxed FF armour.
The amount of fail in this mech is astounding. Even with max armour, my CT got cored almost instantly. The 106 base kph is nice, but it doesn't make up for the fact you still have to close in for your lazors to do any reasonable damage. And speaking of lazors, the arms moving only in the Y axis are a death sentence against anything that moves at close to your speed and above.
So I just p. much wasted some 6 mil cbills on a complete crap mech.

Its got less hardpoints and less tonnage than a Hunchback. Shouldnt it go faster than a Hunchback?

hmmm me thinks that mech is better, 10 less alpha damage but
40kph faster
only 40 less armor
has JJ as well
harder to hit
the Blackjacks could have been great mechs if
they were 50 tonners
all had 295 max engine rating possible
right now they are either too damn slow for their size (problem with the 1x its too easy to plaster it across the map)
or they dont have the tonnage to use those ballaistic hard points to any viable degree except a pair of ac2, and still have enough ammo and back up weapons to do anything
i mean for christ sake the bulk of them are barely faster then their big brother the Jager, which to get to speeds FASTER then the jager they can barely take any weapons.... even with FF and endo steal....
im really trying ot like this little guy and i will probably dedicate some time to him because for some reason i like the hard to use mechs and such but im really regrettin dropping the 15mil C-bills on these things today.

Welcome to the world of mediums. Where every mech is better, but other pilots are inferior
