Just give them a third gamemode, call it something funky like deathmatch.
Build a cube as a map, put a checker texture on it and let em pew pew.
Don't forget at least to put in one spawn point, for the guaranteed brawl.

A "simple" solution would be to add a further cap point, that must be conquered to actually UNLOCK the main base capping.

At least you'd now that the team is interested in capping out your base and you'd have the time to get back to defend it properly.

A variant would be to heavily defend the main base with turrets; if you want to disable the turrets then you have to conquer a secondary capping place, that then disable the defenses at the main base allowing you to cap it. Either way you'd be alerted and take the proper countermeasures.

I like the idea.

I also don't understand why the base has no sensors or defensive structures.
In Conquest mode that's ok, but Assault mode, where it's to be expected that the opponent will attack the base?

Another way to get rid of cappers would be to just stay near base for 1-2 minutes and wait for them. Kill them, then advance.
But people are so focussed on rushing forward and get the killz that nobody cares.

the game modes are boring and unimaginative and dont do justice to the actual combat which is good.

maps need to be better designed as well, better base placement and maybe a different spawn/drop point for each squad

but overall the main problem is the capping dynamic in both game types is just rubish.

And if a base is actually a base then wouldn't it have defences and sensors? Maybe even repair services? Like if you get your arm blown off you should be able to return to base and get it repaired? But if the enemy has destroyed your repair post your out of luck.

you should also be able to choose your mech when you know what the map is, not change your setup but select a mech from ones you have already setup.

when you think about what they could do it becomes clear how little thought has gone into the actual game modes.

Or even better, Add TDM, remove both conquest and assault and add an actual objective game mode like attacking a Static Defense Base.
