Ok I think what we have here is the game modes out pacing advancements in player organization such as VOIP and other features. Which is leading to a level of unrest among most players.
Why not add in more team oriented tactics. Right now the blob is the main feature of the game not because it is feasibly more tactical but because there is a heavy lack of communication and team oriented features that lends itself to the "safer in a pack" mentality. Which is absolutely true. It's the exact same reason animals in the wild do it, they can't communicate.
PGI could implement a C3 system where in order for any lance member to transmit spotting they have to nominate a lance leader who is the C3 master. Once the "master" goes down that lance no longer sends available data to the rest of the company. If the company commander goes down no lance shares data with another lance, they then only share within it's own lance. If the lance captain goes down and the company commander is still up they still share all their data with each lance as he becomes the default C3 master.
This would prevent "RUSH" blobs as it is more detrimental than beneficial to lose the command structure.
VOIP needs to be put in, make it lance only VOIP so as to not get confusing. For instance only make lance leaders able to use VOIP. The company commander can VOIP to the lance captains. The lance captains VOIP to the lance mates. Once the lance captain goes down the company commander can no longer effectively communicate to that lance.
Additionally anything with 2 LRM 10s or greater should be designated as support and additional "savior" rewards should only apply to these units and they need to be greatly increased.
Scouting rewards need to be remade the first time any enemy is spotted a light/medium should get a bonus reward.
Anyone with a command console should be able to designate roles to each unit, for instance, base defense, base attack, scout, support, main line, various roles. The command console of course should be able to see what each unit has. The command console should be able to see everyone on the field at all times, if spotted just a single time, aka satellite/dropship is now tracking . Console command should take up crit spots in the CT, RT, LT, and Cockpit. Any one part goes down and the console is worthless. It should also be available to all units.
The console command should also allow drag and select just like any strategy game out there. Right clicking on your own unit or base issues a defend command, right clicking on an enemy unit or base issues an attack command. Way points and attack points can be given as well. Lances can be selected by group such as alpha, bravo, or charlie.
Having a console command should also allow you to drop your artillery and air strikes anywhere on the map. I think the artillery needs to be a much larger area of damage and air strikes should do strafe runs designated by three smoke bombs along it's path instead of the singular smoke bomb as used currently. This will off set the fact that the commander is spending a lot of time staring at a map instead of actually fighting, and can easily get caught off guard or flanked.
If an artillery hits someone dead center they should just die period, aka their crotch is on the smoke bomb. Moving away from it causes random damage you could take barely anything, your arm could fall off. Sounds powerful but the smoke bomb has to sit for 12 seconds, way more than enough time to escape and when it hits 5 seconds you should hear a sound in the distance if artillery a huge crack along with an area of the map visually in the distance giving off a huge flash, then the sound of a high pitched whistle as it flies through the air. Air strike same thing but instead you hear the thunderous roar of the jet or jets approaching and visually see a jet in the air. In other words it's almost impossible to get hit if your paying attention or even just listening. I would also suggest adding smoke screen it would be quite neat.
I also think aside from airstrike and artillery strikes as modules capping various bases should give randomly one airstrike or artillery strike to the commander.
It would also be nice if the commander could place colored arrows on the map red for alpha, blue for bravo, green for charlie. This would help direct various flanks from the command console.
If no one has a CC then you just get the default options we already have in the game. Their should also be a vote system if there is more than one CC in the game. No one can suddenly replace the commander or a lance captain either. Once gone their gone.
I think these changes would create a huge wave of new tactics that are now viable and plausible, instead of this pack mentality we currently have.
