I altered some of the formatting to make it easier to read.

It would even be more interesting if the faction you joined had a predictable affect on the availability of what mechs/models of mechs you could easily get.

Than you'd see people in the capellan faction actually dropping with capellan mechs, for example.

You assume that nobody wants to pilot anything less than an assault, which isn't the case. You also assume that the Go Big or Go Home meta is fine and dandy for just assault pilots. Let me tell you, but there are a lot of people that will pilot just about any weight class if given the opportunity to do so in balanced matches. Right now, there is no weight balance and that is a problem as evidenced by Paul and the developers asking for ways to make light and medium mechs viable. These drop limits makes all mech weights viable.

With your proposal of a min/max of 1200 tons does absolutely nothing to help non-assaults. Your objection to actual drop limits based upon the BT Universe is ludicrous.

Also note that this is for Community Warfare and is to be used in conjunction with an actual meta-economy in place that limits what is available to purchase in a marketplace as well as providing a reason to having Loyalty Points.

EDIT: You also assume that a person only has one mech and that it's an Atlas. That is not the case as many people have as many mechs as they have mech bays which everyone gets 4 for free. Although, some people like a friend of mine just happens to own every mech in the game to date and has the mech bays for them.

First off, I agree with your whole line of thinking. Thanks for putting this together.
"...there are a lot of people that will pilot just about any weight class if given the opportunity to do so in balanced matches.", is arguably the core issue at hand. People play a game to have fun (otherwise it'd be called work). Pigeon-holing people into a specific subset of mechs/loadouts ensures a gamer's interest drops quickly. You've put together a nice PPC, er piece, of the puzzle.

Op has it right, dropping with light(recon), medium, heavy, assault classes is the way to go. Drop weight is a quagmire, using drop classes is the best way. Said it twice so you would get it and not be confused. This is the funnest way also :)

Also op there is a example of the drop interface in the ui 2.0 topic if you wanted to use that.

Seems as if the drops will be divided into 3 lances with designated weights or classes possible.

Cool read.
As I have stated on some other threads, in particular in response to Paul's announcement of drop limits.
"Every once in a while, a full on Assault VS. Assault would be nice."
Maybe,a loosening of drop weight limits could be used as part of Planetary Conquest, first battle could be lights versus lights. Winner gets some kind of advantage in second battle.
Third round could be assaults.
I am not dismissing your idea, it sounds about right. I am just thinking variety could aid in replay and player retention.

Except that the lore doesn't support what you've said. This is all about lore based Battletech drop limits. However, a campaign system that accounts for what a unit has in its inventory of available mechs can be used in conjunction with the meta-economy I wrote up to do close to what you want. As mechs gets damaged and the resources of the unit are used up then there is less mechs that can be fielded during planetary conquest.

There's also this from the Faction Assignment and Rarity Tables:

Quote

INNER SPHERE GENERAL INFORMATION
With regards to weight distributions, there are some regional variations. House Liao’s CCAF and House Davion’s AFFS generally obey the average distribution ratios. However, House Kurita’s DCMS places a great deal of emphasis on operational mobility and as such favours the use of light mechs, while believing that medium mechs represent a useless compromise. House Steiner’s LCAF has reached the opposite conclusion: thinking the general answer to any problem is to throw more weight at it, the Lyrans are perhaps the only force that employs the Charger as a scout mech with a straight face. Lastly, in the pre-Clan era House Marik’s FWLM (as well as its various provincial forces) strayed from the standard ratios, but due to supply shortages rather than a difference in doctrine; the Free Worlds League was chronically short of assault mechs, and in an attempt to compensate increased production of heavy mechs as much as possible.
Military (House) Light Medium Heavy Assault
Average distribution 30/4 40/5 20/2 10/1
CCAF (Liao) 30/4 40/5 20/2 10/1
DCMS (Kurita) 40/5 20/2 30/3 10/1
AFFS (Davion) 30/4 40/5 20/2 10/1
FWLM (Marik) 30/4 40/5 22.5/2 7.5/1
LCAF (Steiner) 20/2 30/4 35/4 15/2

I changed the table a little bit, the numbers are the percentage on the left of the slash and the number in a 12 mech drop that would represent on the right of the slash. I also shortened the names for the militaries. Note that the Marik difference from the average disappears in rounding for a 12 mech drop.
