Calling Targets

But what if we had a button we can press to tell our Lance/Team to shoot at that target? A kind of "calling a target" with an automated voice or other identifier on the target/HUD to say try to aim at that. I dunno, different box, glowing edges? Something that makes that target bracket stick out.
Then just have it where there's one for your lance, and another for your team.
Then all it'll be is a curtsy question at the start "who's calling the shots?" and well, alot more even on the battlefield for organization I hope with alot less hassle.

You would make it an option only accessible to the lance commanders.

When someone targets a mech now, the triangle above the mech will be filled (full red instead of just outlines).
Maybe this could be expanded to show if this mech is a target of one of your lancemates.

Most commonly it's
1. A button to report an enemy's location, as Roadbuster suggested
2. A button to designate a target, as the OP suggested
3. A button for "Help, there's a pack of Jenners on my lower center torso rear! Get 'em off me!"
4. Several buttons for short commands: "Attack", "Retreat", "Left flank", "Right flank" etc.
It would be immensely useful for PUGs.

The problem, is how do you show it when that target is covered by ECM and you cannot get a lock?
If it just spammed a message over team chat, it would likely get ignored.

Perhaps said Triangle could be FILLED with your Lances designated Color?

Will it help PUGs? Absolutely. Will it help premades? By tenfold the amount it will help PUGs. Not saying I'm against this suggestion. I support it, but for different reasons. Just make sure you all know the facts and consequences of what you are asking for.
VOIP is something I'm against, at least right now. Reason being is it will cause more network chatter.. alot more chatter. That affects hit registration/detection. Once that issue is fixed, then I say go for it. But right now I say no, its not worth it. Lets face it, the people that wouldn't mute VOIP are in TS. People using TS will keep using TS no matter how good the ingame one is.
Need proof? Play Planetside 2. PUGs use VOIP, well some of them, a good majority just mute it. Outfits use their own VOIP software (TS, Mumble, Vent). But the few of us competitive team players that go solo once in a while (like myself) will use it. So I do support it, just not right now because of network issues preventing its use.

Let me put it this way... PGI takes the slowest route to obvious things that would greatly help the game.

What projects have you worked on where you've been able to make additions on demand to the UI without breaking anything else? Have you even done a mod?
They're working on UI 2.0 which is a complete overhaul of the current one, which will have such features. If you think you can do it quicker, hit the Now Hiring button at the bottom and get paid for it. If not, then I'd recommend not being so judgmental. Criticism is one thing, assuming you have something to criticize. The new UI isn't here yet, so there's nothing to criticize. Criticizing them for not having a launch feature before launch is just being a D-bag. Once the game launches and they still don't have this completed gives you more of a leg to stand on.

I always thought that was the R button in PUGs!

We really need to nerf these things and also add more mechanisms to make the game more complicated.

Yes, and things break and take time. I don't have a problem with that. However, there has been zero mention of what their priorities and/or statuses are... which is a fair assumption that isn't at the top of their list at all.

UI 2.0 primarily (at least my understanding of the goal) is to redo the entire interface... however the first part has to do with the mechlab itself. That has been apparent to what Bryan had been asking for feedback... and I don't expect that to be completed anywhere before launch, but that's not something I will look for a realistic ETA on. It will be done when its done. HOWEVER, voice macros does NOT require the UI overhaul... this is work on the BATTLE side of things (where the last thing they worked on was lance and commander controls) which is NOT strictly tied to the UI 2.0 effort. I'm sure eventually that would be revised to remove dependency, but what is literally requested is NOT tied to the UI 2.0.
