Just to correct everyone, Mechassault IS a mechwarrior game.

The IP and the people who made it proves it.

Day 1 Studio had the rights to mechwarrior.
So all the idiots can stop saying it is "not" a mechwarrior game.

Heheheh. Yeah. I AM asking for it, ain't I. Bring it on! In fact, here's some fuel for the fire:

I wouldn't mind them developing a MechAssault 3. Especially if it took everything that was great about MA2, and expanded on it. Online Galactic conflict, more support units, ticket system like the Battlefront/Battlefield series, maybe add the ability to attack as a foot soldier, BA hacking support... that would RAUK!

Maybe after MWO launches and takes over the internet, they'll have time.

You know, I'm all for it too, actually.

*brought a firesuit*

It would introduce non-fans to the Battletech universe if done right, and if they crave a more realistic feel, they can come on over to MWO, and be a real Mechwarrior, or as close as anyone can get to it.

We could get entire legions of new fans that are playing things like Steel Battalion to join us over here, if there were some sort of intermediary game to get them accustomed to the lore, ideas, and other things, but be more accessable to those who are either too young to play a sim effectively, or too unskilled, or too unfamiliar with it. If the basics of mech combat were introduced in this MechAssault 3, there would be a stepping stone there.

Come at me if you will.

yes and won cause i had some back up from the northwind highlanders in their elemental suits as well, i clawed it to death...well half half to death then shot the rest.

I lost all my buddies in that fight...

but I found a spot that it wouldn't move from until it was about to go critical, then it would walk out and kill me every time...

I'ts not MechWarrior, it's entirely different, rights ownership does not matter.

MechAssault did not play like a MechWarrior game, it was not built like a MechWarrior game, it had nothing to do with MechWarrior, the only thing the two had in common was the Battletech universe. That is it.

So Red Orchestra IS actually a Call of Duty, since they both share the Russian view of WW2? :D

None of you 'hardcore fans' seem to know the most important piece of information missing from this 'debate'.

TJ "PAINGOD" Wagner was working on BattleTech games from the beginning. Most, if not all, of the mechs he conceived and designed ARE canon. He is the man behind MechCommander, MechWarrior and the MechAssault series too. If PAINGOD took a dump on your desk, drew a cockpit with magic marker on it and called it "StinkFox" there's a good chance it would be 'canon' shortly after.

So please, you may not like arcade style mech games, but hating on a franchise which was made to appeal to a different crowd and attract new fans to the battletech universe? Why? That franchise was made by the same guy who made your favorite game, not to mention quite a bit of the content of the universe you swear by, and none of you even seem to have a clue.

PAINGOD is still with Day 1 Studios BTW, and he's developping a brand new "fast paced" arcade style mech game called Reign of Thunder.

I loved MechAssault 1 & 2, It was fast action, destructible buildings, one of the most original titles for xbox at the time with great multiplayer for a years its all I played on Xbox for hours on end...

TBH, I wish they would take a lot of things from the MechAssault series and put them in this game... like every mech that dies goes critical, Gauss rifles have a good chance of knocking you down, PPC's that the longer you charge them the more damage they do but go slower and if you wanted to rapid fire them you could do short charge bursts(plus they had a auto-follow if you were aiming correctly) and last but not least, the Timed missile from the Prometheus and Longbow catapult.

The VTOL and tanks in the second one were interesting, all in all I had a great run with both titles and played lone wolf all the way till the end on xbox360, sad they took the server down, otherwise I would still be playing ;)

I had a ton of fun with both MA games. That being said, I need to address a couple of points you brought up here:

1) From what I understand, in canon and perhaps even real-world science, a 'Mech reactor would not go completely ka-boom if breached. Something about the reaction within immediately ceasing upon breach. It was still cool, though.

2) I think that the timed "Hammer" missiles were MA's way of re-creating the MRM (Medium-Range Missile). To this day I am uncertain if I really liked them or not.

3) PPCs don't home, or have burst fire. Have fun frying your capacitors, heat sinks and ammo bins in attempting to do so.

it was just the play style of the MA series that made things interesting I thought, I haven't read one battletech books and more than likely won't. I just play for the fun factor (which I know varys from person to person)

As M4X1MU5 said, check out Reign of Thunder. Same studio, and as I understand most of the same dev team. It's a PC title, but they are making it friendly for Xbox 360 controllers and similar gamepads. If you enjoyed the MechAssault games, you'll probably get a kick out of RoT.

I should also add to M4X1MU5's comment, while Day1 did hold the IP, video games (including the "good" MechWarrior titles) are explicitly declared not canon.

I did not like the MechAssault games myself. BUT anyone who enjoyed them, YAY more power to ya. i hope mechwarrior online can appeal to people who enjoyed the most recent console games AND what i'm familiar with, PC 2 through 4 with emphasis on the merc games
