1) TAG- does it have to be dead center (turn crosshairs red) or just be in the red box?

2) If he is behind obstacle but I still have him targeted, will TAG work?

3) Why does Assault Stalker only get 2 module slots max while some heavies get 3?

1) The red beam has to actually hit the mech not just hit the red box. As long as the beam is in contact with the enemy mech, anywhere is game.

2)No, terrain will block TAG lock.

3)Some mechs get a different amount of module slots. I'm not sure if there is rhyme or reason to it though.

Hope it helps.

1) TAG beam must touch any part of the target mech (not the red box but the actual mech)
2) It is LOS so if the target is obscured it doesn't work
3) Because the bigger the mech is the fewer modules it gets generally. It is a Game Play Balance thing and the Stalker is already pretty powerful so 2 slots.

1) no to both. It must touch 'the mech'.
Example video. Using Tag to assist sniping.

2) No, it will not work. But, if you have them tagged, and your ally sees him behind an obstacle (but you don't), the ally can still hit your target with missiles with greater accuracy than he could if the target was not tagged.

3) That can be upgraded with the Master unlock. Some stalkers have more. Some have less. It's to limit the advantages of said Stalker as a pseudo balance.

TAG needs to be pointed at the mech itself, pointing just at the box or through objects won't work. Also, important to realize that if you are pointing at an enemy mech with ECM outside of 180 meters you can still TAG them. As for why the stalker has two module slots, it's just balancing. Beyond that it's actually not that huge, just very dense - not much room for anything other than engine and gun.

Forgot 1 question-

If using LRM's, does TAG need to be on target throughout flight of the missiles (long time) or just when firing?

Ideally, yes. It's difficult to prove whether this is true or not. However the missiles will start to spread if you let go of the target for too long.

I believe you do need the tag on target before they launch the missiles however, as I do not believe tagging after they are in the air has any effect. <--this could use some testing.

Tag has to remain on target for the duration of the flight. The first bonus of TAG is quicker lock on time, the second bonus (which is only if the TAG is still on the target at end of flight) is a smaller spread of the missiles.

TAG is strange... I do not know about the spread part and whether it bonuses spread at launch time or effects spread during launch. Considering computer programming though I'd be 99% it does the spread bonus at launch. It will add tracking bonuses DURING flight though.

You can see this when LRMs are already in the air and you brush a light mech with a TAG. The LRM pathing changes suddenly and visibly.
