I downloaded the free client and each time i try to install I get an error message.

0x800b0101-a required certificate is not within it's validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.

anyone know fix for this?

Install the program from here first and then Mechwarrior will install

Refer to this.
This is all the data from Microsoft on that error, and the fix's required. Normally its you have not updated windows to the current level.
You didn't list what operating system your using, this fix is for Vista, Server2008, and Win7.

You may need to be logged into you computer as an Admin but not always required.
Just looks like you haven't updated Win for a while.
