I'm trying to utilize Artillery/Air strikes into my gameplay because I feel like I never see them, and I can't recall ever playing a match where I faced one. Does anyone have any tips on how to use them more effectively and any reasons as to why they aren't seen around on the battlefield much?

This thread pretty much sums up all of the reasons nobody uses them:
http://mwomercs.com/...5m-range-boost/
That said, the only way to even attempt to use them is to look for an oblivious newbie that's not moving around a lot, and hope for the best. (Once you get the power up tweek on your 'mech, you can reactive and escape before the shells even land so shutdown 'mechs aren't very viable.)
