I was wondering how the salvage reward for winning is calculated? Because I just played a match and all i got from salvage was about 12k. And we won by destroying the other team. So I feel this a little low. So we could only salvage 144,000 (144,000 = 12,000 * 12) CBs in stuff form the destroyed mechs. So can someone please tell me how this is calculated.

It sounds pretty much what you're saying. A % of entire value of the dead enemy mechs are factored in... but there are heavy losses to salvage count...

1) Engines - if you side-core a mech with an XL engine and/or core the CT of a STD engine mech, you lose out the most expensive part of the mech. Giving cockpit shots (to the head) or legging a mech will get you more money.

2) Components (body parts) - If you remove a side torso of a mech like an Atlas, you lose all items in that section, which would normally be part of salvage.

3) Ammo - Ammo costs very little, and is also consumed by your enemy, so there is very little to gain from that.

Also, salvage is only from your enemy... if salvage included from your own winning teammates, that would be nice (it would technically be more fair if R&R was reinstated in some form, but meh).

It also sucks for salvage that OOB (out of bounds) and self-death by heat penalizes you from such salvage rewards (it's kinda understandable by self overheating, but self-suicide through OOB is usually pretty lame).

The thing is, salvage values dropped significantly after the 12v12 patch. So I am under the impression the formula for calculating the salvage has changed with all the other game reward reductions.

I would really appreciate if the salvage calculation was explained to us by PGI. Would help shed some light on the rewards reduction, too.

If the team that got "destroyed" doesn't have to pay for any repairs or reloading, and their mechs are completely intact for the next match, then where does the salvage come from?

The same place the extra heat comes from.

Their respective faction makes up for the losses.

What, you think that when an M1 Abrams tank gets hit by an RPG and gets it engine taken out that the Army makes the crew pay for the repairs or replacement of the tank?

You make big C-Bills if you win the Savior/Defensive kill lotto. The tricky part is figuring out how to get those on a regular basis.

That is true. Although I do find myself collecting "as much as I did before", the problem though is that I have play a "tourney" type of mentality to "collect" on the c-bills. Not everyone should or want to play in a tourney.. the scoring will come if you play well most of the time. The problem is, there is lots of undesirable behavior that goes on in them and to train the newbies in that form or fashion is really a bad type of grind that doesn't foster a good outcome IMO.
