I want to know when the option to turn chat off in match will happen?

I'm waiting for this option to bring my son into the game and spend some money.

Won't ever happen. If it does, somehow it will be set to 'no chat' by default and all semblance of teamwork will be out the window.

Might I politely suggest that internet gaming is too offensive for your family and morals. I am not being sarcastic. The internet is a really shartty place, and if the things you see in chat are that bad your son does not belong here.

Frankly if your wife is admitting to people (ON THE INTERNET) that she is a woman, she gets what she gets. Females on the internet either accept that digital-ogling happens and thrive on the attention, or they ignore it, or they don't admit they're females.

I understand the OP feelings well. However I doubt a simple on off will be implemented. After reading this I added a feature suggestion that I believe will help, and invite like minded folks to read and suggest refinements to it here.

Troll

What is the point in reporting it to deaf ears, and what is the point when I want to let my child play a game that blows up robots without having to worry about the crap that people put in chat? Once they sent it the damage is done already, not much point in reporting them after the fact. I just want to turn it off when he plays, simple, easy and doesn't hurt anyone else in game, yet protects him from finding things out before he should.

As for letting my son play this, he plays lego starwars, lego batman, blowing up bad guys, battlefront II, MW4, and UT2004 without me having to worry about him growing up to be a terrorist. So those with the opinion he should not play such games, you raise your kids and I'll raise my kids. I have two very well behaved well mannered children that I can take anyplace and not have to worry about them getting into trouble or causing problems. Oh and btw, because of Mechwarrior my oldest wants to be a Robotics Engineer and decided so at age 8, he's almost 11 now!

I know that it's none of my bussiness but i think you are a bit overprotective.
I beleave that it's better to let your son play, then discuss what he saw and teach him to ignore the internet trash.

In my experience, an opinion different than yours does not make someone a troll. To qualify as a troll all posts must be made while under a bridge. You also have to be able to handle a massive sodium intake as tears are quite salty. I digress.

That is fantastic to hear about your oldest wanting to go into the field of robotics engineering; we need more people passionate about such fields. I am however curious about your concern when you state your son plays Call of Duty Modern Warfare 4. Does he do so online in public servers? If so I would imagine they are filled with virulent, immature and uncensored rantings of repressed individuals. If that is the case, then MWO would appear as a pristine haven generally free from profanity laced ramblings. Again, I am having to make the assumption that your son did not play on a private server wtih dedicated admins providing a safe place to play (did that myself back for counter-strike, we had 6 year olds tearing everyone up (quite hilarious)).

He has to grow up sometime, you can either futiley try to prevent exposure or be there with him when he encounters it and use it as a teaching moment. Make no mistake, you would still be protecting and nurturing your son's growth as an individual.

It is unfortunate about your wife but you either need to play with a group who understands women are supposedly people too :) or not mention her gender. Honestly, gender is irrelevent in MWO and there is no reason to bring it up. I do not discriminate who gets missled, young, old, male, female, firm, infirm; everyone gets missles. I am like the Oprah of missles "Look under your chairs people! MISSLES!".

On a side note, do you think your son(s) need 3rd person view to understand or play MWO?

To the OP, the only problem with turning chat off is that this is a team game. If we don't have a chat function, orders can't be issued as effectively, explanations can't be given, and we can't give person-specific orders in a PUG. Instead of turning chat off, perhaps you should request a censor option or a parental controls option for the in-game chat which would censor all sexually explicit and racially charged comments. In my time in online gaming,

You guys are basically telling the OP "too bad, so sad" which is the wrong answer IMO.

The truth is, a lot of MWO players are huge douchebags, and barely anyone plays as a team during PUG drops anyway. I don't see a problem with having the option to turn off chat, or at least have a filter on, for those matches. Most online games have similar options

Hmmm. I have kids too and I wouldn't let them play any online game for the same reasons. It's a real danger of online gaming. Turning off chat is a good idea but I wouldn't want your kid on my team because pugging sucks right now as it is. I hope you understand. Now, if they implemented private games, we're on the same page.

I've been teaching him for years to move with the blob and focus fire on the same target as the majority, not saying he's great, but he'd be more effective then some of the pugs I've dropped with here and in MWLL. I've spent hours riding shotgun with him while he played MW4. I would hope he'd be more of an asset then a liability, but I'd be riding shotgun with him again until I felt comfortable he's good enough. How else does anyone get the experience needed? He currently plays in training grounds and that's it, until I can unleash him into real battle.

i heard a lot of "bad language" in elemtary school...but my parents already had prepared me,and explained things to me... i am familiar with and can equaly talk to "sh**heads" if needd, but i also know what good behaviour and respect is... it´s not about the world you grow up in, it´s about who teaches you...
