I've found that it disappeared at odd times, and I'd have to go back into the Options screen, turn it off, save everything, restart the game client (just to be sure), back into Options, and turn it on again.

It _might_ have to do with me trying a second computer on the same account -- once in a while I crank it up on a lower-spec machine to see what the frame rates are like. I _think_ after I do that, my founder tag would not draw in game anymore, and on my main computer I'd have to jump thru the hoops to make the tag come back.

Should probably file a ticket, but its such a minor thing with an easy workaround that I haven't done it yet.

if you go to the options menu while you are in the game (ie in a match) then your Founder's tag will drop... because if you notice while inside the in game menu there is no option to toggle the Founder's tag.

to get the Founder's tag back on you have to go to the options menu while in the mechlab (ie not during a match)... then you can toggle the Founder tag on or off.

This is a known bug that has been in the game since the patch that introduced arm lock/throttle decay and the ability to change options in game.

Basically for the past 4+months they have known this happens.

The exact bug is if you change any setting at all while in a game it will turn off your founders tag. Of course since they already have our founders money this is an incredibly low priority bug. I would assume they have simply deprecated it til UI 2.0 is introduced hoping that it fixes itself with that rather than spend anytime fixing it in the current system.
