Last thing I killed was a Hunchback 4SP. He kept over heating as he fired it LL's at me. Knowing my Hunchback well, I figured he was running an XL. So I kept jumping (did I mention I was legged?) and popped off that XL for kill #6.... When I finally limped my way back to cap I find a 88% Stalker who one shots me. Lol, moral victory I guess.
God I love this mech. OK, proceed to flame the spiders wonky hit boxes/MG's dmg/HSR fail/ yadda yadda yadda. Fact of the matter is, in good hands, this little dude is DEADY!
It's not that their boxes are wonky, they're meant to be small; it's how survive. I've been hit by single PPC's and see my LT/CT both light up. Has anyone looked into that? Shots are so large, the Spider is so small, that the damage is split? Or It's the game trying to figure out which torso it hit? Left? Center? Aww, to hell with it, toss that shot out because I'm not sure where it hit. It happens on ALL light mechs. Hell, I've hit ATLAI in the CT with AC/20's and big guns of the like, only to have the paper doll flash, and still remain grey. Huh?
And lasers? Why's it so hard to hit a Spider with lasers compaired to, say, the Jenner? Easy. The Jenner is a phallus with legs. When you sweep it with fire, the lasers hit everything as long as you're on target. With the Spider, it's very spindly. Lots of fire gets negated by the fact that the beams go between the arms ALL THE TIME =D. When one shot can kill you, we'd better have something going for us.
