It was a pain in the arse trying to fit this and double heatsinks wouldn't work

It just isn't fun. Seriously, if you run a 5K go for 4 MGS with some tons of ammo. If you manage to survive a bit it is the most fun you can have in this game.

4mg's, 1 large laser is probably the best build out there for the 5k. However, end of the day you've just gotta go out there with as many builds you can think of and find which one you have the most fun in.

All right that build had me interested so i wanted to see what it would take to fit a large pulse laser in

All right i also made a - One AC 5 and 1 medium pulse spider

and i guess ill post all the junk i come up with for the 5K here ;p

Here it is
  • 133.6 KPH
  • 143 armor
  • 1 Ac 5
  • 60 Rounds
  • 1 Medium pulse laser
  • 3 Jump-Jets - Alternative is to drop one jumpjet and add more armor
To equip ultra ac 5 drop - One ton of jumpjets and you will have one uac 5 with 50 shots

  • 161 Armor
  • One medium Pulse laser
  • One Ac 2
  • 150 rounds for AC 2
  • Two Machine guns
  • 2000 rounds for machine guns
  • 57% cooling efficiency
Alternative is to drop one - Half ton of armor for one more jumpjet





Or One ton of ac 2 ammo for more jumpjets - or engine size

Anyway this build is probably what im going to use first on my 5K

Large pulse at 151.5 kph
  • 151.5 KPH
  • 161 armor
  • 3 Jump-Jets
  • 4 Machine guns
  • 2000 rounds
  • One large pulse laser
Alternative is to drop one ton of jumpjets for machine gun ammo

or one machine gun for more armor or jumpjets

Well, with the machine guns i actually tend to keep the fire button pressed when i am "brawling" with someone.
let's call it "infighting", brawling with a spider sounds weird....


ANYWAY, those builds aren't that expensive despite of the engine.
And a slow spider is a dead spider anyway, so my advice would be:
- get your 5K
- Max up the armor
- Insert XL255

And from that on just build whatever you feel like (including dropping some armore if you want to. i would advise against it though). See how much MG ammo you need by trying. I know that i could drop 1 ton of ammo if i would only fire it "when it counts", but semi-constantly firing it is just easier for me :unsure:

If you want to go with 4xMG, full armour, and full jump capability, a MPL is the biggest energy weapon you'll be able to fit: 4MG+MPL.

If you're like me, you won't mind sacrificing some armour and jump for the added range and punch of a ERLL: 4MG+ERLL

I tried the AC thing before the MGs got buffed, and it just doesn't work for me. AC/2 + ERLL was okay even though it was on the slow and fragile side, but the heavier ACs precluded an energy weapon or left me without jump jets.

Either way, the MG is in such a good state now you can have loads of fun with one of the quad MG builds, there's no need to try and mount a heavier ballistic in the Spider.

My 5k lives with a single ac2, but your builds are so slow its suicide, If you want the ballistic light mech with jumpjets take the 4x, and for speed take a 3m cicada with an ac10 can go 130kphish

I run a 5k with a med laser and ac5 w/2ton ammo. No jumpjets. I love it, been Avg about 300 damage a round with few kills here and there

me? not really. heat, ammo
SDR-5K

raw fun, MG's and ML, lots of armor and that big block scoot over 160
2 tons, oddly I seem to hit better with less carried ammo, instead of spray and pray I focus, which is more than I can say for 80% of pug players, I COUNT on them doing that when I go face to face with another light

The Spider has not enough tonnage to really use double AC2. It can be done, but you always end up sacrificing large parts. And speed is not the problem - if you have good situational awareness, 90-100 kph is good enough (remember you are in a support fire mech, not in a squirrel). But either it's the heat, or the ammo, or the armor.
The new Firestarter however is quite capable I think.

I am tempted to use this design... The only thing I do not like is only 2 jump jets... LB10X with 3 tons ammo though, big shot gun on a tiny mech...
