It would be a good idea for the first week or first 3 days, for a new player to have only a light trial mech to pilot. I wont put all of the reasons for this in the post because there are many like ease of piloting. (yes i know they are the most challenging and need elite pilots at high end game etc).
This would add to the atmosphere of being a new player in a new land.
Each faction could have a different trial mech also.
I am not sure this is a good idea, just that it might be worth looking at.
The idea might also add some depth to the new player experience.

An even deeper throat? Maybe if trials were actually usable. Also, to be able to play lights you need a powerful contemporary pc giving at least 45+ FPS even in the heat of the battle.

No, it would not add anything but grievance and frustration. If I had to play for 3 days with a light 'Mech, I would stop and never come back.
Anyways, why do you think that light 'Mechs are easy to pilot? That's complete BS. You think that running faster is easier than running slowly? Think again, genius.
Also, name all of your reasons next time instead of saying "I wont put all of the reasons for this in the post because there are many...". BAH!
And what the hell is that "end game" you are talking about? Elite pilots are needed for lights? I'd rather think you have to be a really good pilot if you gonna steer mediums.

A light without a real engine? That's stupid. They'll think they're playing Call of Big Stompy Robots, Modern Borefare, die horribly a few times, and quit.
First light I played was like the 4th or 5th Chassis I owned (not variant, chassis.) This isn't a campaign based game where people get locked into a story experience, this is a multiplayer game where people blow **** up. Except they wouldn't, because they'd be guaranteed cannon fodder, and even more useless to their team than if they were in a trial that had one or two real guns.
