The developers should seriously consider making it so players cannot put ammo in the legs of a BattleMech. When players have this ability, it makes CASE practically worthless. With this change, players would have to choose wisely where to store their ammunition and also makes CASE an essential piece of equipment for ammo-wielding BattleMechs. Thoughts/Opinions?

Let people put ammo in their legs if they are crazy enough. Makes it easier to leg them. bapbapbapBOOM!

This will further hamper ballistics heavy builds who choose to risk an xl engine as well wont it?

It's not ammo in the legs that makes CASE useless, it's XL engines. If you have a standard engine and use CASE, it will still prevent your mech from being totalled if the ammo in the legs goes.

Leg ammo explosions make for the most hilarious of deaths, though. I've seen some sweet flips.

i wouldnt use case in its current state even if this were live, it changes nothing... normal mechs dont have the ammount of ammo that explosion would be threat and boats are squishy anyways so if they die now or 2 seconds later is not much of difference
besides if want to make mech go boom from ammo just go for leg (provided the 20% chance that the ammo will indeed explode)

also it would add another bad game mechanic

id prefer to up the risk of ammo explosions to 25 or 50% thus making case a really useful item.

All it does is shift the explosion from the legs to the torso, and if you get legged, you're as good as dead anyhow, so ammo in the legs is still a risk.

Sure - what this game needs is more complexity, more crippled mech builds, more exploding noobs rage-quitting after unforgiving matchups and never coming back.
While we're at it, lets re-add R&R costs and further reduce the c-bill incomes...
Sounds like a fun game to me!

/sarcasm

...and just when ballistics were coming back too...

No. I say add more fun.

LOL, why don't you just add a hardpoint for everything then? Ammo hardpoints, BAP hardpoints...... NO MORE RESTRICTIONS.

Dumbest. Idea. Ever.

What would a mech with DHS put in the legs then? Absolutely nothing except maybe a beagle probe.

CASE is mostly for mitigating repair costs after the fight. Since PGI took that out of the game, CASE is of pretty limited usefulness.

If we cant put ammo in our legs, we get single heat sinks, JJ's, and bap. That's it.

There is no need to change anything. CASE has a use, and so does ammo in the legs.

If you want CASE to be useful let it keep an XL engine side torso kill from killing a mech.

I don't say this is an idea a like, but it would put CASE on the map, and nerf 1 ton of the benefit of XL engines.

In essence you trade 1 ton of XL engine benefit and 2 slots to negate the auto side-torso death penalty.

On small mechs the loss of a ton can be very hard to ignore and on large mechs 2 slots are often precious.

Everyone would just use XL engines with CASE then. It would mean death of standard engines.

BTW, if ammo explodes in legs (well probabvly depends which ammo) you are dead without CASE. Damage will spread from legs to side torso to CT.

Make legs' damage transfer to the internals of the other leg.

I didn't say I liked the idea... I just said it would give purpose to CASE.

Balance it by making case weight in a 1 ton and 2 slots. :) There by offsetting most the XL benefit for common engines.

And Roland hits the nail on the head. I would argue for armor before internals, but either way is fine.
