i'm sure the Devs are working on this already as it's in their list of things to get done. but i wanted to chime in with a suggestion to see how others feel about it.

let me start off with my initial worry about drop weight limits. i'm afraid that we are going to see a set limit for the drop and we won't be able to drop until we are under that limit. for example. i hit launch, and i am put into a 'waiting room' with 11 other people and we have to select our mechs. and there is a weight limit set. i'm worried that 6 random other blokes are going to lock in assaults and leave the other 6 of us stuck taking light mechs. or worse yet, someone wants to run a mech and there isn't enough weight left over for them so they refuse to pick something lighter and it holds us up from being able to drop.

my suggestion:

set a weight limit per player and if they don't use it all it shifts to others. this could be done in two ways.

for instance:

1)each person is given a weight limit of (for example) 60 tons. i pick a spider so the remaining 30 tons i'm not using gets divided up amongst the other mech pilots that have not picked yet. or if i want to pilot something heavier i have to wait and see if others are piloting lighter mechs.

2)each person is given a weight limit of (for example) 60 tons. when i pick a mech and have not used my full allotment i can pass it on to a mech pilot of my choice. i'm going to pilot a hunchback and i give the extra tonnage to a friend so he can pilot a cataphract.

basically i'm concerned about possible greifing during the dropping phase when people are selecting the mech they want, and looking for ways to avoid as many player created issues as possible.

p.s. i love the idea of drop weights and can't wait for them to be implemented.

This is genius in one way you haven't mentioned.
It would vastly increase the number of medium mechs on the battlefield because players would rather be assured of getting in their main mech every match. Whereas with an Assault and certain Heavies there would be low odds of them getting in every match.

However the downside is that Heavies and Assaults would be difficult to get a slot for, which could be more frustrating :/
I'm just going to trust that PGI are working on something.

Or you queue as a light mech and fill the next upcoming match with a light mech role to be filled. Queue as a heavy for instance and it might take a while to find a match if there are to many heavies.

This is more than likely how it will be done.

btw this isnt my idea this is how these things work is all.

Although a variation could be to display on a deployment board of some sort what roles are needed to avoid long wait times.

somewhat interesting solution.

It would only work for Lone wolfs.

Premades would though logically use the same formula, but you would never get an atlas in a 4man. Because if 2 brought spiders 30 tons , that only leaves 60tons excess, so even then your 3rd planer would only be allowed to bring a 50ton mech to allow a atlas. Which overall is a bit light.

But the concept is decent, just needs to be tweaked a bit.
