why?

because a new guy with a super fast mouse / rookie FPS player won't understand how badly a super fast mouse speed is hampering his aim. Also, people will increase the mouse speed if it's too slow, but not necessairly decrease it if it's too fast. might make early gameplay more newbie friendly.

Absolutely. Most (non-FPS) players never understand why it's a good idea to turn the mouse sensitivity way the hell down. But it makes a huge difference, and makes precision shots much, much easier.

Was rough for me at first, as in Windows i run my 5600dpi mouse at very high sensitivity, so normal mouse use requires no more than 1cm mouse movement to cover the screen.... But in MWO, that's brutal.

I have my mouse drop down to 4000dpi in MWO, and my mouse sensitivity down at .1, and it's awesome

Just buy the gaming mouse. I use a razer taipan mouse for example. I can configure its resolution step, so I can switch the resolution freely. When i need to move my mech torso faster, i switch to higher resolution, then when i need to point the target carefully, I switch to lower resolution. And also don't forget to buy the gaming mouse mat. There are two type surface of gaming mouse mat, control surface and speed surface. Speed surface for fast mouse movements, and Control surface for precise mouse movement.
