normal SRMs definitely still need a bit of a damage buff, the idea of streaks doing a bit more is fine.

In previous Mech Titles you could dictate the aim slightly of SRMs, since they ripple fired or worked with NARC. So if the first missile missed, you could slightly adjust your aim and maybe the last couple missiles would hit. This was also expanded upon in MW:LL.

Unfortunately, both LRM and SRM behave as blob missiles, which sets them back instead of behaving more realistically with ripple fire.

All in all, while people are arguing about balance, the fundamental mechanics of all the current programmed missiles in the game are very lacking.

No, it cannot lock on behind you, but if you already have a lock it can indeed fire missiles straight out your back at an enemy behind you. Target decay module works wonders for this.

Did you not see Thomas Dziegielewski's post debunking this rumor on March 4th?

From the thread: "STREAKS LEAVING LAUNCHERS AT RIDICULOUS ANGLES"
http://mwomercs.com/...ost__p__1994394

FTL:
Streaks can not be fired at a greater than 45 degree angle to your target. That is the point where lock disengaged instantly.
What you are seeing is the weapon bay door delay + ping. So the player had already met all the correct criteria for firing it is just the missile launches that are delayed.

It is a aesthetic problem and I'll address it eventually but it's not top priority right now.

I had not seen that, so thank you for linking it. Although it still doesn't quite fit; the player had met all the correct criteria for firing, but the missile launches were delayed and therefore the missiles went out through the side/back of the 'mech?

What's the difference then? That he pulled the trigger while the target was within 45 degrees?

Incidentally I'm quite certain that SSRMs do not lose lock at 45 degrees off-target; I've played way too many matches in a triple-streak COM-2D to believe that, and there's no issue with keeping lock on a target that's 180 degrees behind you.

No worries about the link.

Yes, the difference is the firing player pulled the trigger while the target was within the 45 degrees.

As for the Commando 2D, I don't know about a whole 180 degrees (is that hyperbole?) but they do have a decent arc of fire and they have 2 missile hard points on the right arm (old image):

All right, I may be misremembering things; it's been a while since I played my 2D.
