Everyone is afraid of the new technology that allows you to use a hovering drone to look over your shoulder to check your surroundings. But so are your enemies!
Here you will have a place to post your best tactics and strategies and discuss them with your friends and foes.
Nobody wants to be just "noise".
Be smart, be clever, and show it with a video or detailed description to take the fame!
But be aware! If you fall into whining or insulting mode, you will receive no fame, but shame!
To give you a first idea of what to try and then to show:
example1: take 4-5 light mechs with only one using the drone (3pv) to make the impression of a lone target. Use cover to hide the team, but be sure to let the enemy see your drone.
See the enemies comming and decide for an ambush if you are more, or a retreat if there are too many.
example2:
take most of your team to use the drone to get into a fake position. Then, when in covet (like the city) switch to 1pv and sneak off. Flank the enemies who think you are still there and over run them from the sides.
works best with faster mechs.

and pray the enemy does not have seismic sensors, BAP, or just plain rolls along with enough friends to smack you in the face.
So far, 3rd person view is gloriously useless, and the drone is hardly a decoy or bait.

Incorrect. I can now approach a hill and look over without risk BEFORE cresting to acquire my firing lane before cresting, reducing the exposure time by a full .5 to 1 second. The difference between taking a full hit, or none. I can even crest just AFTER seeing the salvoes of the entire team shooting elsewhere, in complete safety.
It also artificially armlocks your reticule so you have pinpoint convergence with lasers and srms. Easy mode aimbotting.

Makes no difference to me because I don't shoot unless i have a clear shot. Have not yet lost a skirmish where I felt it was due to the 3pv. Only thing it does for me is give me an idea that I'm up against a noob and to turn up the heat so they panic... Loving it.
You can lock your arms in control settings so that pressing [ctrl] unlocks them.
If the enemy was shooting the other way you were never a target anyway...
Nice try but 3pv has no benefit against my play style and I'm in line with PGI on this no negligible advantage thanks to then forcing armlock in that mode. I assumed it would benefit poptarts but being one of them myself i saw no benefit.

I test drove a Cicada in 3PV.. I helped me better maneuver the mech around terrain and it made is easier for me to out-brawl bigger/slower mechs more effectively. It gave me room to get clear and solid shots on them far better than in 1pv...
This thing can be exploited significantly by skilled players on some mechs.. IMHO.

It does seem to favor some mech more than others, particularly mechs who don't have any horizontal arm twist. Arm lock on? Not a problem.
Overall though (and I tried) I couldn't play with 3PV on. The loss of the Radar was too much of a loss of data for me. I depend upon the data from the sensors to help guide me into positions to better strike the enemy. Also, I didn't like "forgetting" which nav point I was standing on because I didn't have the minimap.
Overall, I found 3PV to be more detrimental to team play, and as much as I wanted to try and fight with it on, I couldn't bring myself to do it. As an individual player looking out for oneself, I'm sure there are advantages in it.
